Ledger. Art from the J. W. Wiggins Contemporary Native American Art Collection. August 14th 2 November 28th 2020. Galleries at Library Square Cows Roberts Library as part of the central Arkansas Library systems celebration of the 50th anniversary of Arkansas author Dee Brown's classic Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. The cows galleries at Library Square are honored to host an exhibition of contemporary ledger art from the J. W. Wiggins Native American Art Collection at the Sequoia National Research Center in Little Rock. Wiggins explains that thes contemporary ledger art drawings are created by Native American artists from the late 19 eighties until today. These drawings air done on any surface that was previously used for a different purpose. The repurpose surface, medium and subject reflect the life of today's Native American, just as the traditional ledger art did the life of that era's Native American artists. According to the Plains Indian Ledger art website at the University of California Ledger, art represents a transitional form of plains Indian artistry corresponding to the forced production of plains tribes to government reservations roughly between 18, 60 and 1900 due to the destruction of the buffalo herds and other game animals of the Great Plains by Anglo Americans during and after the Civil War. Equal A Marie Walker vision from the lens of my Soul galleries at Library Square Loft Gallery equally Marie Walkers Retrospective exhibition features soulful image is reflected in black and white color and mixed media from her more than 20 years as a photographer. Walker, who studied at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Clark Atlanta University, currently works as a teaching artist for the Crystal Bridges in the classroom program in Little Rock. Her latest projects also include developing creative content and residencies for the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas in Pine Bluff. Walker has had solo exhibitions at the Cows Sue Cowan Williams Library as part of the Emerging Artists program, Cows D Brown Library cows, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Children's Library and Learning Center and upcoming the Our Gente branch of the William F. Lehman Library. Walker was selected by the Arkansas Arts Council as an arts in education artist for the state of Arkansas.
