The bursting large artillery shells created gray black clouds sounding like the fourth of July. But this was no fireworks display which flak burst was going to find its mark when it hit me. Would it be a small piece of razor sharp metal or would a large piece hit me square on? Maybe a piece had already hit my back and spine? I lost the use of my left arm not long after being lifted out of the jungle in Laos. About the same time I lost all feeling in my legs. Now, pilots were being presented with precise digital values of absolute E G T scary temperatures in the 13 hundreds, 14 hundreds, 15 hundreds and even 16 hundreds Fahrenheit few understood what these temperatures meant. But most assume that as with most other temperatures in aviation C H TT I T O A T oil temp et cetera cooler was better and hotter was worse. In fact, however, absolute values of E G T are not particularly interesting for several reasons. The most important is that indicated E G T is not a real temperature. To understand what I mean by this, I'd like you to conduct a thought experiment. Imagine that you're an E G T probe located in an exhaust riser between two and four inches from the exhaust port of a cylinder. And think about what you would see. The answer is you'd see nothing much. When I have shared my story of conversion with other Muslim friends in America, they immediately respond with statements such as, don't worry, I will never tell anyone this story or please don't share this story with anyone else ever again. Not that they want to harm me. After all, we've built a solid friendship.
