I'll start with dumb deaths first and slowly get to the most ridiculous demises recorded in history that really hurt my brain. Number one death by alarm clock, there was this guy Sam Wardell who worked as a lamplighter in New York in the 19th century, as you would imagine from his job title. Sam needed to wake up with the first sunlight and extinguish the light he had lit the previous evening to make things worse. He would always oversleep and be late to put the lights out in time before a supervisor put his lights out. It's honestly a miracle. The guy got this job. So he made an interesting contraption to help him. Always wake up early. According to the newspaper that reported his death, he rigged a novel contrivance in the shape of a heavy weight which he hung over the bed in such a position that when it fell, it would strike the headboard and wake him up. This weight was connected to the alarm clock and when it hit 5 a.m. the weight would fall. But guess what the weight was right? It's a £10 rock and little did you know Sam was also a heavy drinker. Surely nothing will go wrong. Of course, it went wrong. Sam had a Christmas party at his house and moved his furniture around the house to free up the space including the bed. Once the party was over and friends waved their last goodbye to him. Sam moved the bed back but he didn't notice his head was above the stone the following morning at five A ma stone fell on his head and crushed his skull.
