Hello. Welcome to history Obscura. The place where the dark and mysterious stories of the past come to be funnel and amaze us. I'm going to be here every Tuesday and Saturday releasing a new episode. And this, as you probably noticed, is a teaser episode just meant to tickle your fancy, to cool your curiosity and let you know that we're up and coming in the new year. 2020. So with no further ado, let's delve into ancient aliens because, wow, did I find a cool story for you. This one took police in the town of Glenda Lou in Ireland all the way back in the 12th century. The source for this is the Book of Glenda Lou, which, if you're looking for it's officially filed as Rawlinson be 502 in the Bodleian Library. I'm sorry. That's not more poetic. If you aren't familiar with the Bodleian Library, that's the largest U K University library collection. It has more than 13 million printed items in its catalog. As you might imagine, many many of those printed items are centuries old, and the Book of Glenda Lew is one of those written in the mid 12th century in a combination of Latin and Middle Irish. Here we go. There happened in the borough of Chloe era one Sunday, while the people were at Mass. A marvel in this town is a church dedicated to ST Canneries. It befell that an anchor was dropped from the sky with a rope attached to it and one of the flukes caught in the arch above the church door. The people rushed out of the church and saw in the sky a ship with men on board floating before the anchor cable, and they saw a man leap overboard and jumped down to the anchor as if to release it. He looked as if he were swimming in water. The folk rushed up and tried to seize him, but the bishop forbade the people to hold the man, for it might kill him, they said. The man was freed and hurried up to the ship, where the crew cut the rope and the ship sailed out of sight. But the anchor is in the church and has been there ever since. As a testimony. Funnily enough, I can't find any reference to a saint. Generous that don't direct me straight to one of the versions of this story that happens also with the borough of Clara. However, I do know that in Ireland, as in everywhere on Earth, names change over time and things get lost. Two living memory. Also, there's a Saint Kevin, which is close, that is the patron saint of Glinda loose so the two things could be connected. Otherwise it's a hoax. But it's still a very, very old hoax, which is in itself a very cool thing. Ufo's were by no means relegated to Ireland during the Middle Ages, either. A story from Japan in 12 35 mentioned something similar one night. Ah, hi, Officer named General Your Tsunami and his army were settling down in their camp when they spotted mysterious lights in the sky. The general and his troops watched in astonishment as these lights performed amazing aerobatic movements such a circling endlessly and flying in loops. Baffled by the bazaar aerial display, General your Atsumi ordered a scientific investigation of what he had just witnessed. The explanation he was given by scientists used with comfort and calm. The whole thing is completely natural, your Atsumi was told about the mystery lights It is only the wind making the star sway.
