Description

From high-profile sports coaches to local news anchors, many them have been told by their bosses the organization is \"going in a different direction.\" I think it's important to hear from people, hear about what it's like to experience it and recover from that shock of losing their job so publicly.

imagine a conversation about losing your job in the public eye and moving forward or walking away from a job in the public eye so that you can move forward from high profile coaches to local news reporters. Many of them have heard this phrase from their bosses, We're going in a different direction. Yeah, that's code for you're getting fired or we're not renewing your contract. Hi, my name is Matt Rodewald and I spent 18 years in television journalism and I heard this phrase one time, I know what it's like, I know that feeling. And after years of sticking in the local news field afterwards, I simply had enough and decided to walk away on my own for the very first time. I think it's important to hear from people who leave high profile jobs like these, whether it's their choice or not, it's good therapy and it's a good way for our voyeuristic culture to catch up on. Oh yeah, I remember that reporter, whatever happened to her. One good example is my friend Ben Hutchison who spent nearly five years at W. I. S. N. T. V. The Abc affiliate in Milwaukee. He was in a great position to succeed at the station. So why did you decide to do something else? You know it's interesting because so much of our lives when we're on tv is shared on social media. Obviously on T. V. Even other people talking about what we did on T. V. So I think being a public figure, I've thought about this over the years is sort of like a dumb down athlete. You're living in the public eye. Everything you do is either cheered scrutinized etcetera. So going from being a public figure back into focusing on those family moments that don't necessarily have to be shared on social media. They don't have to be known by people who watch or listen. It's totally different. Ben is a great example of the kind of conversation we can have and showcase to our listeners. Look, coaches don't win, they get fired, anchors don't get ratings, they get fired. But here's the thing, we are all human beings and we should all have a conversation on what that is like in the era of Covid, there are so many people who have lost their jobs. This feeling is understood, this feeling is not foreign and it could make a difference for the mental health of so many to know that someone else that they may know through the public eye has actually gone through it. This is a relatable conversation and it can be to a lot of listeners. So let's pull back the curtain so that people can see what it's like to go in a different direction. Mhm. Mhm.
