Every day we hear about the clean energy revolution, solar powered homes, wind energy and electric cars. But are we really in the middle of a clean energy revolution? While the world tries to move away from fossil fuels, Wind and solar are unreliable sources of power. Renewables use lithium ion batteries to store energy when the weather isn't cooperating. Battery technology is extremely expensive and inefficient. At present, wind, hydro and solar are unable to provide a really a world solution as an energy back up. For example, in Germany, the clean energy movement is moving in the wrong direction. To meet power demands, the German government has been forced to import more oil and natural gas than a decade ago. Ironically, this is made driving an electric car in Germany less environmentally friendly than a gas one.
