What is a data lake in this video will explain the concept, the benefits and the implementation options. Amazon Web Services defines a data lake as a centralised repository that enables you to secure, discover, share and analyse structured and unstructured data at any scale. However, what does this mean in practise? How does the data like actually work? The first step is to identify all your business data, both structured and unstructured. Structured data refers to the traditional relational databases, whereas unstructured data includes everything from images, audio and video files to emails and documents used in the day to day running of your business. The next step is to collect all this data into the Data lake Next. Using specialised tools, the unstructured data is processed into structured data layers. These structured data layers are then used to feed data into reporting tools, analytics engines, E. R. P s and more. So what are the implementation options for a Data Lake? Data Lakes can be implemented both on premises or with cloud solutions such as azure or AWS. There are a wide variety of technologies, platforms and tools that can be used at each stage, allowing you to tailor the implementation to your current anti structure or defining new architecture as needed. A data lake offers you centralisation as all your data is in one place and scalability because it can handle large amounts of data that can grow with your business. The wide variety of tools and technologies gives you accessibility and flexibility when implementing the solution and making the data available for business users. I hope you enjoyed the short video.
