Elliot, 13, sits at a desk in the guest room of his grandma Joe's, engulfed by future floral wallpaper. Writing a letter. Dear Mom and Dad, I'm happy to report that I've been having boatloads of fun at Grandma Joe's in Mount Laurel. A shot of Elliot sitting on the curb, listlessly sipping from a Slurpee, another shot of Elliott walking down a country road, trailed by a gaggle of geese. There's so much to see and do around town, I've assembled a gang of friends. Elliot lays on the floor facing a retro TV set while a B and W noir film plays. He looks over his shoulder to see Grandma Jo, 88 snoring on the sofa behind him. And hey, even when I do get bored, at least Grandma is an energetic playmate. Sitting at the desk, Elliot looks longingly at a flyer advertising in New York City Film Festival. Well, I better run. Thanks for sending me away to this summer wonderland. I love you. Eliot sets down his pen, pauses for a moment and then scratches out Wonderland and replaces it with wasteland. Elliot goes to the bedroom window and removes the screen, tosses his backpack outside and hoists himself into the window frame. He's just about to escape through the window when his grandma appears at the bedroom door and they make eye contact with each other. Actually, Mom, Dad, on second thought, if you don't hear from Grandma and I for like a day, don't wait up. I have to Elliot and Joe waving their hands in an attempt to hitchhike at the side of the New Jersey Turnpike. She's just taking me on a short, quick, really brief last minute, our field trip, the pair of both scarf down slices of dollar pizza as they speed want through the streets of Manhattan. Don't worry, I'm making sure Grandma takes her pills and sticks to her strict diet. Elliot and Joe hang on for dear life, as they saw across the Hudson River in a speedboat with Joe at the helm. And I must say, Grandma's driving skills have really improved. In her old age, Elliot and Joe crash, a red carpet arrival at the Lincoln Centre. This trip has actually been like super educational, which is boring but important. Elliot holds his grandma's hand to help. Her balance is, they run up to the cinema box office. Let's just say I take back everything I said about having a dull vacation. This is one I'm never gonna forget. The film's title card appears over the N. Y C skyline 88 a half miles hurtling into a theatre near you.
