Patrick O'Connor. Friends forever. two Friends, Steve & Ricky. I grew up down the street from one another. They did everything together. They were on the same football team in high school and learned how to drive together every friday night. Ricky slept over at steve's house and they stayed up late playing video games. Let's make a pact, Steve said, one night, that will be friends forever. Okay? Said Ricky forever and ever. No matter what. Soon after that, the two friends went out for a drive at night. Ricky wanted to go fast, steve told him to be careful. Ricky drove so fast that he drove through a stop sign and sped into an intersection where a big truck hit the driver's side. Steve turned to look at his friend's head which was badly wounded. He watched the light go out of his eyes. Ricky's injuries were too severe and he died. Ricky was buried two days later at his funeral. As the Mourners began to fill the grave with dirt, steve whispered their promise to each other friends forever. The next weekend, steve was feeling sad as he remembered how Ricky had always spent friday nights at his house. As night approached, there was a knock on the door, he wondered who it was and went to look through the people through the hole. He caught a glimpse of Ricky's football jacket. He had been wearing it the night he had died, steve wondered if someone was playing a prank on him and was about to open the door when he heard his friend's voice from the other side. Let me in. It's cold out here. A chill ran up steve's spine. It was a cold october day and he wondered if he should open the door or not. As he thought about it, there was another knock and when he looked through the people he saw the jacket again, the person had their back turned so he couldn't see their face. Ricky? He asked, in disbelief. It couldn't be his friend. Yeah, it's me. Open up! Demanded the voice. It sounded like Ricky, but steve knew it couldn't be steve replied in shock. We were going to hang out tonight, remember, Ricky said. But you're dead, steve repeated louder, suddenly feeling chilled to the bone. It's cold out here, Ricky said again, Are you going to let me in, steve? Couldn't believe it. He had seen Ricky die. He decided it must be someone playing a prank. Okay, I'll let you in, steve said, but you have to turn around and face me first. Okay, agreed Ricky from the other side of the door, steve leaned in closely to peer through the people. A blackened face with sunken eyes and a bloody head injury, stared back at him. Steve stepped away from the door and fear. He watched the door knob begin to turn. The door swung open and there stood Ricky, thanks for letting me in. Ricky said, Friends forever
