One rarely stops to consider the sound of steady breathing or the constant beating of the heart in the hour, when one does listen to the silence around them. Often times in the deep of the night, their own breath becomes a distraction to the peace they seek. Their heart becomes a drum pulsating deep within that ensnares the mind from the outside world, dragging it away from where it wishes to go at the same time. The heart is necessary to live for without it. The mind could not long for the silence. It can never have blood rushes through the veins and thoughts grow louder and louder until there is no difference between the quiet night and the busy day. Just as the stomach growls, hungering for food. So to do, the ears ring in the dark, hungering for noise, sleep erases time, but is damned by dreams, terrors and bliss. Is that begin the cycle of longing for silence. A new silence is maddening and noise deafening, but there is a silence. Even the deaf fear. The silence that isn't distracted by steady breathing. The silence that isn't trailed by a beating heart. The silence without thoughts or blood or sleep or dreams. The silence all long for, but none can enjoy
