I was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. My father was a well known and recognized trial lawyer, and he spent his career in politics. He started out in Congress under Roosevelt and was an individualist who wanted to take on the establishment. Because of that, he had a difficult time winning in politics. But he became the majority floor leader of the house and was within 10,000 votes of becoming the governor in 1939. He was my inspiration and was always pushing me. My life has been goal oriented, motivated and entrepreneurial. I played football, basketball and golf, and I swam on the swim team. I earned 17 letters, wasn't very good at basketball or football, but I played. It was all a learning experience that helped me get along with people, and getting along with people is everything in life.
