English learning can be difficult, intimidating and sometimes even cause anxiety. Students can get overwhelmed with all the grammar sentence structures, proper pronunciation and vocabulary. However, positive correction can help build confidence and increase English proficiency. Encouraging words thumbs up and big smiles put students at ease when correcting errors. We can help students to know the type of error that it is, whether it be grammatical, syntactical or phonological. There are several ways we can correct students such as immediate correction, delayed correction or self correction. Delayed correction helps with fluency and confidence. Immediate correction helps with accuracy, while self correction help students understand the stakes so that they can recognize them independently.
