tonight. We join a story that has already begun. A captain and crew must face trials that come close to the razor's edge. Will they live to see the sunrise once more? Or will they be lost to the void of space? Come and listen as the tale unfolds. What's the ship's status, Jack? Then don't tell me that it's falling apart. I already know that The ship, it's operating at 100% efficiency. Captain. And we're not limping through the void at all. I should throw you out an airlock for talking to me like that. What else is wrong with the ship now? Or should I even ask, would you like that in alphabetical order or chronological captain? Mm hmm. Well, the reactor is working, but it's at 40% efficiency. Which means we aren't able to jump to warp right now. Our shields are so thin. I doubt we would survive a direct hit from a tissue paper. Life support is thankfully still working mostly. I'd be surprised if it lasted till we got to port though. Weapons are non operational gravity. Well, there's still gravity, but that's about it. Do we at least have comms online. Have been sending out intermittent pings, but we don't have enough juice to power the array constantly. I could draw power from life support and end our misery faster. I'm in no mood for gallows humor. Fair enough. In all seriousness. I could divert power from the gravity well to boost the comms array, but that will leave us floating in a smoking sarcophagus, do it? I'd rather lose gravity If it means we catch the ear a passing ship, aye, aye. Captain, warning you are attempting to shut down the gravity well, with the reactor operating at 40% efficiency, you will not be able to restart it. Captain Merson. Please confirm this course of action. Captain Merson. I. 33709 A. M. One A. I confirmed this course of action, acknowledged. Captain Carson. What just happened? Warning has been detected on decks two through five in the ap section of the captain. I'm attempt to close off all affected areas before we lose any more air Carson. Can you do me a favor and shut off the alarm, Captain? It is against standardized safety protocols to silence any warning sirens that alert any and all crew to immediate danger. Turn it down at least. I can't hear myself think. ****! Just work with me, you old piece of sh it. Oh, who knew that punching the console would fix the problem. Well, I may have fixed the breach. We now have a bigger problem, captain. I can gather that we've just lost a majority of our air supply. That would be correct, sir. And on top of it, we also lost what was left of our shields. Could we divert any more power from the reactor to the shields? I'm already checking, sir. The reactor is holding a 40% power production and if I pull anymore from it, we chance the electromagnetic shielding collapsing, which will cause it to go critical captain. Very well. What other systems can we pull power from? To get at least some shielding back online. There aren't any. However, I can reroute the power from the shields back into the reactor. At least then we'll have more power available for the life support and our comms array. That's not an option. We need those shields back now. You have to have missed something. I didn't miss anything. The only systems that have power currently are the reactor engines comes array, life support and shields, which I may remind you were paper thin Carson. Are there any other systems that are not essential for our continued survival? **** you too, captain. I'm sorry. I didn't hear that. Do you have something to say? Chief engineer? No, sir. That's what I thought. There are no non essential systems that are drawing power from the reactor captain. You have to find something Carson because we need those shields back now without extensive repairs to the reactor. There is no way to boost power to all essential systems. There's only one way to get the shields back, captain. And it would require us to completely shut down the engines and divert that power to them. We shut down Those engines will be dead in the void, Jack. That's the only way to get the shields back with any usable amount of strength, captain. So either we keep moving and we hope we make it or we shut down the engines and hope someone hears us. My calculations confirm that shutting down the engines would give the shields enough power to prevent another hole breach. Conversely, if you continue without shielding, the possibility of another breach due to debris is 3.3 times 10 to the 23rd power. It is very unlikely. We will begin again captain. What are your orders divert power from the shields back to the reactor and boost life support systems. If Carson is right, we should be fine. Consider it done. Sir. Power has successfully been diverted, reactor output is now holding at 55%. I mean, Hey, I guess that means we can start the gravity well again. By my calculation that would not be advised there is sufficient power to start the gravity well, the reactor will not be able to maintain power output. The system would fail in 30 minutes. Thank you for killing the joke, Carson. I'll make sure to dedicate more power to life support. You do realize Carson is an ai. It probably doesn't understand what a joke is. On the contrary, Captain. I am quite aware of what a joke is. However, a joke is generally meant to be funny. The chief engineer statement was not cough Carson. Oh, good to do that. Well, I guess the only thing left we can do now is monitor the ship and make sure we are going in the right direction. Alright, well, I'll take the first watch. Go get yourself some shuteye. Jack Carson will wake you in five hours. Do me a favor. Don't blow the ship up while I'm sleeping or do at least then I won't see it coming. And here we are, the captain and his chief engineer have barely escaped what could have been a deadly encounter. Perhaps they will make it to their intended spaceport. Perhaps there will be a further tragedy later on for now. Thank you for joining in on the story. Good night and listen to the twilight for more.
