I think you'll agree that San Marco Church is a rather splendid spot to begin our tour. As you'll have noticed, the church is the dominant future of Piazza San Marco. It's also an important side for the history of the city in a number of ways. The church that stood here originally was constructed by Sylvester monks in 1299. What you can see now is the major rebuild that happened in 1436. This was overseen by Cosimo de Medici. The elder Cosimo owned the fortune of 100 50,000 gold florins.
