Harsh Bhatt Finds New Horizons in AI Voice Data Recording with Voices
A Career at a Crossroads
Harsh Bhatt’s journey into voiceover began in music production, but his curiosity about the power and variety of voices soon drew him behind the microphone.
“There’s no good voice or bad voice, first of all,” Harsh recalls. “There are different voices, different characters.”
By 2019, he had converted his own room into a studio and started freelancing as a voiceover artist, working in Gujarati and Hindi.
Voices Arrives at the Perfect Time
In 2023, after leaving his full-time job to pursue voice acting, Harsh hit a lull.
“I was expecting a lot of people would come to me and ask for work and all, but that didn’t happen,” he admits.
That’s when Voices stepped in: “November 2023, Voices came in. I got this data collection job, 10 hours of content recording and then the payment. So that’s when this kicked in me and I believe this came as a blessing and this came at the right time because I didn’t have work.”
Embracing AI Voice Data Recording
The opportunity was unlike anything Harsh had done before.
“That was my first time recording something this long and this big. I learned a lot and that’s when I started understanding my voice and I started giving more samples to more clients and companies.”
The project was demanding, but it opened new doors.
“After finishing the whole project, I didn’t know if I sounded great or not, but the experience was great.”
He discovered new abilities, too:
“For example, I had this job as a reporter, from Voices, I had this job to record like reporting scripts, like proper sports events. I did not know I could do that, trust me. But after recording a couple of scripts, I thought maybe I can do this.”
Endurance and Growth
Harsh quickly realized that voice data projects require a different kind of stamina and self-awareness.
“To record this long content, you need to first focus, you need to have a focus on this project, Number One. Number Two, you need to understand your voice and these long-length projects help you understand your voice in the modulations that you can do.”
He adds, “It was a shock for me when I recorded 10 hours of content in one go, in seven days. That’s something that I learned I could do.”
Trust and Ethics: Why Only Voices
Harsh is candid about the risks and concerns in AI voice work.
“I know there are some artists and some creators who are skeptical about AI and how AI works. But in my opinion, I think we need to work with it and not against it.”
He emphasizes the importance of trust: “Personally, I have faith in Voices. I don’t work with any other companies as far as Voice Data is concerned. Everything is written. Where it will be used, what is the use of this voice, what is this project for—everything is written. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”
He’s heard the horror stories from colleagues:
“Some of my colleagues, they did not have good experience with Voice Data recordings with other companies. They recorded a couple of minutes of sample, and next thing they know after a couple of months, there are scripts of two or three hours long in their voice that they did not even record. That’s scary to be honest. But at the same time, if you know who you are working with and if you have enough faith in the company and they have a proper structure to protect your property, I think it’s cool to go ahead.”
Financial Stability and a New Stream of Work
The impact on Harsh’s career and finances was immediate.
“Yes, really helps. Yes, of course, financial benefits are there.”
The voice data work provided a steady supplementary income and brought him new clients: “People started to know there is someone named Harsh who works as a voice over artist, who has a lot of samples and who has this little bit of command on his voice, who is trying his best to do this. And they started giving me initial jobs.”
Advice for Other Voice Actors
Harsh encourages his peers to try voice data work:
“I think everybody should do this. It’s very interesting.”
He believes it’s a great opportunity for growth and stability, especially when working with a trusted partner like Voices.
