Kylian Waroquet Expands His Voice Over Career Through Voice Data Projects with Voices
A Decade-Long Voice Over Journey
Kylian Waroquet has been involved in the voice over industry for over 10 years, initially doing voice overs for his own video production company.
“I own a video company. I am doing some videos and I’m doing the voice over on my own videos. That’s why I’ve been doing some voice over for so long,” he shares.
About two years ago, he discovered Voices and saw the potential to take on new projects online, expanding his voice over work beyond his own productions.
Embracing AI Voice Data Work
Kylian quickly embraced the growing number of AI voice data projects on Voices.
“There are lots of AI projects and I’m on them. I’m doing every single one,” he says enthusiastically. He appreciates the variety these projects offer: “You are working on several kinds of voices, sometimes more commercial, sometimes more narrative, sometimes more business-related. It’s really interesting because you can try to adapt to the client’s needs.”
Skill Development and Career Benefits
Kylian notes that the voice data work complements his existing voice over career and helps him improve his craft.
“Sometimes I’m able to put that work into my own career, for example, improving the quality of business-related videos that I do,” he explains. Most of his work is in French, which he finds easier and rewarding: “I’m doing all the work in French, so it’s easier for me.”
The Challenge of Long Recording Sessions
Unlike traditional voice over jobs, which often last under two minutes, voice data projects can require hours of recording.
“If you have a three-hour AI project, it will not take you three hours because you cannot read three hours without mistakes. You need to go back and correct your mistakes,” Kylian explains.
“It probably takes double the time because you have to prepare and read the text multiple times.” He compares it to audiobook narration, requiring stamina and focus, but appreciates the comfort of working from home.
Vocal Care and Preparation
Kylian shares valuable advice for managing long recording sessions: “I had a project of 10 or 20 hours to do in four days. I was recording probably seven hours a day. At the end of the day, I was completely off voice.”
To protect his voice, he used propolis, a bee product, along with plenty of water and coffee. “If you talk too much, your throat gets dry. You need to drink a lot,” he emphasizes. Normally, he limits himself to three hours a day to avoid strain.
Equipment and Setup
Kylian stresses the importance of good equipment: “Of course, you need a good microphone, but this is something you always need for voice over.”
He also uses a tablet to read scripts smoothly without pausing, which he finds easier than reading from a computer screen.
A Positive Outlook on AI Voice Data Work
Having completed four AI voice data jobs on Voices and others on different platforms, Kylian strongly recommends this type of work.
“I would recommend it to anyone because if you have the materials and the time, it’s an interesting job where you can work your different voices and talents,” he says.
He cautions that availability is key: “If you don’t have the time to record within the client’s deadline, don’t accept the job.”
Thoughts on AI and the Future of Voice Over
Kylian acknowledges concerns about AI potentially replacing voice actors but sees a clear distinction: “For everyday talks or automatic subtitles, AI voice over might be helpful. But for high-end projects, I don’t consider AI a competition. Real interesting projects need a real voice actor.”
He believes AI voice data work helps improve AI voices but that professional voice actors will always be essential for quality and style.
Final Reflections
Kylian appreciates that Voices focuses on ethical practices and talent protection, which influenced his decision to work with them.
“This is important because you know exactly how your voice will be used,” he says.
He values the opportunity to explore new vocal styles and gain mic time while earning income.
