Even though human trafficking occurs in common industries and in high frequency in the US, it mostly goes undetected and unreported, it can be hard to spot victims of trafficking victims are all ages, genders, ethnicities, immigration statuses and cultures. Although there is no one universal victim profile, there are factors that create vulnerability to being pushed or pulled into trafficking. For example, the drug use abuse and instability in Casey's home made her specially vulnerable. Her family member took advantage of Casey's vulnerabilities and he became her pathway into trafficking. This same sex trafficker occasionally booked multiple rooms for a group of underage girls for several days at a time, the girls used side doors to access rooms, so in front of the house employees never actually saw them.
