During the 19 seventies and eighties, the ivory trade reached a fever pitch across Africa. The elephant populations were decimated as the global demand for ivory reached record highs. But thanks to the 1989 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, ivory hunting was officially banned, providing these elephant populations with a much needed second chance. Four years, Tyler Perry was having a hard time getting his films produced within the traditional Hollywood structure.
