there is nothing sports fans enjoy more than debating their point. Having heated discussions about current topics, hypothetical situations and arguing who the best players and teams were will forever divide sports fans and without a doubt. Currently the most argued and discussed topic is Lebron James versus Michael Jordan's fans on both sides of the argument are very stubborn. Neither side is willing to listen to the other and no one with a strong opinion on the subject can be persuaded by the opposite side. But despite almost all fans agreeing that the goat is either Lebron or Jordan's, it's still not enough to keep them happy. This is a debate that will continue on forever and will never have a definitive answer. But here is the brutal reality of the goat debate. The regular season stats, a sports fans, best and worst friend when debating a topic is stats, the saying goes, the numbers don't lie, but the truth is, they may not lie, but they can be manipulated and twisted into one's favor. So bear that in mind. Michael Jordan played in the NBA for 15 seasons of which he played in all 82 regular season games nine times. Whereas Lebron James has just finished his 19th year in the league and has only played in all 82 games once. Lebron is obviously leading MJ when it comes to the longevity department and his performances are still at a very elite level and as a result, his overall total stat numbers are far above what Jordan's are, he is ahead of Jordan in points scored rebounds, assists, field goals and three point accuracy. These numbers are certainly valid in the goat debate for showing Lebron's durability and sustained greatness. But the overall total stats don't necessarily prove that Lebron is better than Jordan's for that. We have to look into the stats a little deeper and one way to do that is to take a look at the regular season game averages. With regards to the averages, Jordan leads Lebron in points per game, MJ scored 30 points per games. Lebron's current average of 27. However, Lebron is in front in terms of rebounds and assists. Michael Jordan was more accurate from the free throw line, but Lebron's slightly edges in three point and field goal percentage for many. This is where the debate ends. Lebron has better averages than Jordan's, so he must be the greatest of all time, right? But as we said earlier stats can be misconstrued and points, rebounds, assists and shooting percentages are important. But they are the basic stats, we need to explore some deeper stats to really see who edges who the player efficiency rating or p er for short is an all in one basketball player rating. It was created by john Hollinger and is an ADV Advanced formula that takes a player's stats and performance from a season and generates a single number. That can be used to judge a player, it's a rating system that has become a staple in basketball statistics and the two leading all time pe our leaders are Michael Jordan with a rating of 27.9 and Lebron James at 27.6 win shares per 48 minutes is another stat used to more. We show a player's ability. It's a number that is generated by combining a player's offensive and defensive performance with their time on the court. It's used to divide up a teams win among the players who contributed to the win most. And no surprise who the leading player in all time win shares is Michael Jordan leads the list with a score of .250. Whereas Lebron is seventh on the all time list with a score of .230. These more in depth stats are a strong rebuttal to those who claim that Lebron's game averages make him the greatest of all time. But we all know basketball is not just a game of numbers there. So so much more to this debate. A debate that will never be solved with numbers alone, postseason and awards all the points and flashy numbers in the regular season. Don't mean anything if it's not translated to the postseason. **** we might not even be having this discussion If either Lebron or Jordan didn't have success in the postseason. To undoubtedly the best argument for those on the Michael Jordans side of the debate is his championship success. Jordan has six NBA championships and six NBA finals. MVPs to his name to Lebron's four. He all also beats Lebron in season M. V. P awards two with five to Lebron's four, Jordan's Vans also call on his clutch nous in the NBA finals as every time he made it there, he would ultimately lift the trophy. Whereas Lebron has lost four times in the championship finals. Michael Jordan also has one more season M. V. P trophy than Lebron and has made the NBA All Star Defense team nine times compared to Lebron's six and Jordan's even has an NBA All Defensive Player of the Year award to add to his resume. Whilst Lebron doesn't the only trophy Lebron has more of than Jordan's is the All NBA team awards. Lebron has 17 to his name and Jordan has just 11. However, this could be contributed yet again, the longevity of Lebron's career more than anything else. Just as it does for Lebron fans. After talking about career game averages. This is usually the end of the road for Jordan's supporters, more rings and postseason accomplishments. Put the argument to bed in their opinion. However, we've mentioned the sustained level of greatness for Lebron too many times now for it not to become a talking point. Lebron's career longevity. The average peak performance age for athletes in a physical sport is around the mid to late 20s, very few athletes avoid regression and beat the test of time. And Lebron James is without a doubt, one of them. When you talk about a player being one of the greatest, everything has to be taken into account and the longevity of the player has to be talked about. Michael Jordan was the top of the NBA World for 13 seasons. Sure he played for 15, but for 13 years he transcended the sport and became the icon that we know today. Even the most avid of Lebron James fans have to agree to some extent that the overall greatness of Michael Jordan may never be matched. He is basketball, but Lebron's ability to sustain his level of play over 19 seasons asks us a tricky question, would you rather a player be exceptional for 13 seasons or a player who was just slightly less than exceptional, but have him for 19 plus years, Lebron is showing no signs at all of slowing down in the 56 games, Lebron played for the Lakers last year, he averaged 30.3 points per game, That's the second best average of his career at 37 years old. There have been players who have been very good at the tail end of their careers, but none like this. Lebron also became the first ever player to enter the 30 K 10-K 10-K club, meaning he became the first player in NBA history to reach 30,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 10,000 assists. So with Lebron's sustained level of outstanding play on the court. When does his prolonged success overtake that of Michael Jordan's short but exceptional success If Lebron continues in this fashion, there will come a time when his stats are just too far ahead of Jordans. His success will override the accomplishments of Jordans and the longer Lebron keeps this up, the harder it is to continue debating who the greatest of all time is, the legacies. Michael Jordan has left a lasting legacy on basketball. He is one of the most recognizable faces and names in the world. His partnership with Nike and the creation of the brand, Jordan's continued to dominate the sportswear world. 20 years after his retirement from basketball, he was drafted to the NBA in 1984 by the Chicago Bulls and from the outset it was clear clear that the bulls organization was willing and ready to build a team around him. It was the perfect recipe for Jordan's, the team that was built around him complimented his on court play and the organization was happy to have him be the face of the show. At the beginning of the nineties bulls dynasty, the late eighties dominant teams like the Celtics pistons and Lakers had faded out and clear A path for them, retiring after his 13th season in the NBA was one of the legacy, making moves. Sports fans love to talk about it, saw him bow out of the sport on top and avoided him playing through his early retirement years, which would have seen him be the top player on a somewhat lackluster bulls team. On the other hand, Lebron's overall influence in the sport may not be as impactful as Jordan's yet. He's had some adversity to overcome that. Jordan never had Lebron spent his first seven years in the league on a Cleveland cavaliers team that was not invested in creating the best team possible. Part of this is why he jumped ship to Miami to chase a more coherent team that could make a run at the NBA championship. Lebron also spent four straight seasons in the mid 2010 battling the NBA's most dominant modern dynasty in the Golden State Warriors whilst carrying a roster that was not nearly as talented. Like we said at the beginning of this video, the greatest of all time debate will forever divide NBA fans. It infuriates us as there will never be a clear cut answer. Both sides will always have a counterpoint or a rebuttal to your argument, the debate is very nuanced. If you say that Jordan is the best because he has six rings and when six and O in the NBA finals, then Bill Russell would be the best ever, or sam jones or satch Sanders or if it's all about total points scored, then Kareem Abdul Jabbar is the best ever. Not Lebron. The brutal reality is, there is no answer and that's why we love the question at the moment, there is no undisputed greatest basketball player of all time. There are just too many different ways of looking at it, and there is no clear number one in the stats. However, despite the majority backing Michael Jordan as being the best ever time is on Lebron's side. He may not reach the numbers or level of play as Michael Jordan's, but his longevity is showing us that greatness can come in more than one form and that greatness should be measured by different means. Who do you think is the greatest basketball player of all time? And what do you think? The reality of this debate is? Let us know below the goat debate may not have a third option for some time. However, Michael Jordan and Lebron James won't be the only two players in the basketball billionaire club for much longer. Steph curry has somehow cemented his place as the next basketball billionaire, but he should not be this rich, want to know why check out this video
