Mellie was a homeless puppy living in a big city. She was born into a pack of stray dogs that knew their way around the city, and for the most part didn't mind being homeless. The older dogs showed Meli how to get down to the river for a drink of water. They took her to an alley behind some shops where the dogs rummaged through the garbage cans and begged for bones from a butcher. At night, they welcomed Mellie into the center of the dog pile, which kept all of them warm until morning.
