a half hour later, I sat on a stool at a bar in West Hollywood. I've had three no. Four shots of tequila and wanted a cocktail instead of the harder stuff. Bartender, I had my head in my hands. What will it be? The cute bartender asked. He wasn't Daniel. Cute but cute. All the same. Something where I can taste the alcohol. Please. Okay. He went to work on my request. I gave him a thumbs up sign. I looked to my right and watched Michael staring at his drink. Oh, and cute bartender by whatever he's having to, I said Michael held up a glass of something clear with a wedge of lemon and shook his head. I bet it was refreshing. The bartender set the drink before me. Red liquid on the bottom with white liquid on top. Mm hmm. Alex. Wonderful. What is this? It's a Malibu sunset. Cute bartender smiled. He still wasn't Daniel. Cute. Cool. It tasted fantastic. I drank it with a single suck of the straw. Can I have another one? He nodded. Sure. Michael, I whispered, Michael, that was louder. You should try this. No, thank you. He continued to stare forward, but it's not good to drink alone, right? Doesn't that make me an alcoholic? Of course. I'm in a room full of people drinking, so I guess I'm not alone. That was funny. I watched Michael remove his phone from his pocket to read his screen. Hey. Hey. I said to him, If that's Daniel, don't answer it. I don't want him to know where I am. I stared at Michael till he put his phone away. Thank you. The cute bartender gave me my next drink. Thank you, kind sir. Hey, do you know what I did today? He wiped his hands on a towel. What? I quit my job. I did. I told that ***** to take that job and shove it up his really enormous ***. And then I came straight here also. Do you know that my boyfriend is famous, like, really famous? See that guy down there? I pointed at one of the three Michaels I saw. That's my bodyguard. I have to have a bodyguard because he's so famous. My boyfriend, not my bodyguard. I chuckled. The second Malibu drink was stronger than the first. Keep them coming. Those air. Fantastic. You know what else? My boyfriend is so famous. Jordan. Who said that? I looked to my right. Michael stood next to me. Did you just call me Jordan? I slurred. I did. I peeled my upper body off the shiny wood to study him. So it took all this to get you to call me by my first name. I laughed because I couldn't cry again. I think it's time we go home. Home sounded good. My bed was there. My cat was there. I wanted to be there, too. I think so, too. I got off the stool and Michael caught me. I put my arm around his shoulder while he walked me to the car.
