What is a tax lien? A tax lien is basically a lean that is imposed on a property by local authorities when taxes due on that property are not paid. The law allows a tax lien to be imposed on a specific property even when taxes, air unpaid on the property or when other taxes, such as income taxes, remain unpaid. A lien is simply a right to take possession of a person's belonging, usually property until any debts that they owe is paid. In brief terms, we can say that a tax lien is basically a claim against the property.
