My father has had many interesting occupations over the years, to name a few. He was a police officer for a few years than a dog trainer. He was also an exterminator for some time than a truck driver than a salesman. But perhaps the most interesting job my father ever had was a snake breeder. My love of animals comes straight from my dad, Ron. When he was young, he lived in New York City and was limited when it came to apartment friendly pets. When he was a teenager, however, his father decided to move his whole family down to Miami, Florida. Freed from the clutches of landlords, Ron ended up with quite a few pets but the pets he was most fascinated with or his snakes when he turned 22 after he found out enforcing the laws pretty tedious. Ron discovered the wonders of the reptile world wonders as in money. Back in the eighties, snakes were very popular pet, especially in Florida. He brought corn snakes go for snakes and coral snakes. One rare snake could net around 600 bucks. The only problem, however, was finding these rare snakes. Of course, Ron could have bought two rare snakes for 1200 bucks and breadth, Um, but that was a lot of money back then and would have taken a long time to get the money back. So instead he went out and caught his sneaks. He began with house calls, taking snakes out of people's homes and pools. To his surprise, people were more than willing to cough up half $100 to get a rat snake out of the pool filter and even more if he was bitten. But as profitable as it turned out to be fishing for snakes didn't tend to earn in many uncommon types. And there was one snake in particular the elusive Rainbow iridescent Shield tale that Ron was determined to find. Just one. These rainbow, she'll tails could earn him up to $1000. That's when he began snake hunting. At night. He would go out in the middle of nowhere with a bag, sticking a flashlight and poke around until he found something. Often he looked in abandoned fields or run down areas close to the Everglades. This turned out to be a great idea because he could often find five or six adult rare breed snakes in one night. But the Rainbow Shield Teryl was more slippery than he expected
