In remote communities. Health workers are a lifeline to the people they serve but too often they are underequipped, understaffed and underpaid as a result, an outbreak of a dangerous disease like Ebola can quickly become a matter of life and death for both health workers and their communities. In 2014, Ebola spread across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone claiming the lives of 513 courageous health workers. Even more car providers at disproportionate risk of Ebola have died from the disease since then. As outbreaks increase due to climate change and urbanization, these tragic losses devastates families and decimates already fragile health systems.
