He often lost patients to child bed fever what we would call sepsis today. But he noticed something strange. One of his wards had a much higher rate of child bed fever than the other. The difference one was stopped by midwives and one was stopped by positions. The midwives only focused on childbirth while the physicians were delivering babies and conducting autopsies.
