Hey, it's travel time with some early on R and B 103 kicking off with the U. S. Virgin Islands, a special place for all of us here in R and B 103 ST Croix, ST Thomas and ST John make up the three U. S. Virgin Islands and the only place in the U. S. Where you can drive on the left side of the road, and each island has coasts on both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. So when you visit the islands, be sure to stick your toes into both waters. Aside from gorgeous tropical weather, crystal clear waters and pristine beaches, all three islands were rich in native sugar cane and cotton plantations, and slavery was abolished in the mid 18 hundreds. Known as the former Danish West Indies, each island is unique in their own ways. ST. Croix's, the largest of the three and is the home of Alexander Hamilton, who was the first secretary of the Treasury and served under George Washington, stopped by 34 Company Street to see where he lived with his mother and brother in the early 17 hundreds. Quaint shops and restaurants thrive in both the major towns of Christian Stat and Fredrikstad and hold on to the Danish charm in both architecture er and flavor. The thriving port city of Charlotte Amalia, in ST Thomas, is the capital of the Virgin Islands and is the home of Blackbeard's castle. ST. Thomas also houses the second oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere. Christopher Columbus gets the credit for discovering ST Thomas. He reached the island during his second exploration of the New World in 14 93. This island, both the glittering, Lushan hilly coastline with bustling restaurants, shops and historical landmarks, Saint John is home to an underwater national park in Trunk Bay. You will find the underwater trail, which is known to be one of the best places to snorkel in the Caribbean. Most of the island is protected as a national park, which makes its rich in lush tropical scenery and marine life. Although ST John is less inhabited, you can still find Villa rentals and ways to get around for the perfect vacation. Travel lightly with a minimum of clothes, a hat and, of course, your swimsuits, sandals and sunscreen.
