William N. Thomas, IV has been an educational leader in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ for the past sixteen years. He recently served as a Biology teacher at Ron Brown College Preparatory High School, a restorative justice public school that supports the social and emotional development of young men of color. His service leadership and approach to professional development is grounded in a growth mindset that promotes reciprocal development through open communication, management techniques, trust, motivation and accountability. He currently serves as the Director of Science for the Mastery Charter Schools in Philadelphia and Camden.
William is working towards a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. His research explores the lives of Morehouse College alumni who chose to be public-school teachers. The study looks to unpack the intersectionality of self-motivation, professional development and young males of color as it relates to teacher retention. William holds a master’s degree in Middle School Science from George Washington University and a BA degree in English from Morehouse College.
