Upon leaving the house of the duchess Alice was a little startled by seeing the Cheshire cat sitting in a tree. Alice started to wander down amazed path that seemed to wind in the oddest directions. She had not gone very far before she came to the gates of the House of the March Hare. The chimneys were shaped like rabbit ears, and its walls were lined with fur. It was so large a house that Alice did not want to go any closer until she nibbled some more of her mushroom. One bite raised herself to about two ft high. Even then she walked up towards it rather timidly in the garden there was a table set out under a tree and the March hare and the Hatter were having tea at it. A dormouse was sitting between them, fast asleep. The table was a large one, but the three were all crowded together at one corner of it.
