When you go grocery shopping, can you pick out specific brands of products easily? Let's say you're considering switching cell phone providers. What companies automatically come to mind. What about when you're driving around town? Can you identify the vehicles you pass simply by how they look or what emblem appears on the back. Maybe you see a particular vehicle and automatically think about driving over a mountain pass or comfortably commuting through city streets. How you answer these questions is related to your awareness of various companies branding. Let's look at this a little more closely. A consumer can be aware of a brand in two ways. First, it's likely a consumer can list at least a couple of brands immediately when prompted with a question such as what is the first brand that comes to mind when you think about internet service providers? This is called unaided brand awareness. The second way a consumer can be aware of a brand is the identification of a brand when seeing a logo or a list of brand slogans. Maybe a consumer can recognize a brand simply by seeing an image that often appears in that brand's commercials. This is called aided brand awareness. Often brand awareness is the first step in a consumer's buying process. If a consumer is not aware of a company's brand, that company won't be part of the consideration process when a consumer needs to make a purchase or sign up for a service. Another vital part of brand awareness is the maintenance of a company's brand. If a company spends significant time and money developing the awareness of a brand, it is extremely important. The brand stays consistent and recognizable across various situations.
