human civilisation. Its complexity and beauty is breathtaking. Yet it relies on a single thing that's so simple, so elemental. Most of us take it for granted. It's something sacred the ancients knew about, but in time we forgot its power. It is the single thing that balances the carbon in our atmosphere. It regulates the flow of water around our planet. We call it simply soil. This is the story of how soil can save our species from certain doom. But for soil to save us, we might just have to save it first. Our story begins back in 2016 in Paris, at a meeting of the leaders of our planet called Cop 21. It was there that scientists and politicians make a pact to save humanity from the climate crisis. They agreed to meet again in five years time. But in 2021 when the leaders finally reconvened, they realised their plans had failed. The nations of the world could not agree to cut their carbon emissions in time, just like millions of other species, humans were now in grave danger, But all hope was not lost. In fact, far from it, you see at these meetings and many others around the globe, there was a small but growing group of rebels who had a new plan to save the world.
