When looking into the night sky, there is one constellation that stands out Ursa major, also known as the big dipper ursa major is a constellation in the northern sky whose name in Latin means greater Bear, contrasting it with nearby ursa miner, the lesser bear in antiquity. It was one of the original 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy today consisting of seven bright stars. It is the largest of the 88 modern constellations covering approximately 3.1% of the night sky.
