We will collect a bit of fly wood before it gets dark, Brent said, wiping his hands on an old blue towel. He grabbed one of the chain saws and it started third try. The balling engines sent Taylor scurrying up the track towards the road. Brent in his thongs and damp board shorts squared up at the base of the tree hit shot. You don't need to cut a tree down, our shouted. There's plenty of wood lying around. He waved me off. I grabbed my bag from the back seat and Taylor's, too. The tree he'd shot wasn't as big as some of the others on the block, but my hands wouldn't have touched around that if I had given it a hug. I wanted to hug it. Sawdust flew as he expertly carved a wedge of wood from one side. He inspected the trunk some more peered into the bush where the tree would fall and began his final cut. Taylor covered her ears. I held my breath. The tree cracked, the source stalled. Stuck in the cut. Brent swore the tree cracked again. Brent swore some more and ran hard as hard and fast as his fat little legs could carry him. He lost the thong, but he didn't stop. The tree groans and finally fell right on top of his car. Metal crunched and glass shattered. Camping gear was flung high into the air and rained down around him. As the last of it flooded earth words, Brents grabbed his hair. **** the three of us, Mum Taylor and me applauded.
