When he was just a young child, Bezos showed a great interest in how things work. He often turned his parents garage into a laboratory and spent time creating electrical creations around the house. When he was a teenager, his family moved to Miami. There he discovered his love for computers. He also graduated as the valedictorian of his class. During his time in high school, he started his first ever business. The Dream Institute was an educational summer camp he created for students of the fourth, fifth and sixth grade. Following high school, Bezos attended Princeton University, where he continued to study computers. He graduated in 1986 carrying his very own degree in computer sciences and electrical engineering. Following his graduation from Princeton, Bezos landed jobs at several firms on Wall Street. While working at one of these firms, D. E. Shaw, he met his wife, Mackenzie. In 1990 he became the company's youngest vice president when he was just 26 years old. It was when he chose to end this career that his first major life lesson came to exist. Lesson one act, even if it means taking risks. Despite having a highly successful career in the finance industry, Bezos chose to take a major risk. He transitioned to his career just four years after becoming vice president, and he began working in the world of e commerce. At the time, he established an online bookstore business intended to help authors and publishers tap into the ability to use the Internet to mass market their books. The company began in his garage himself, along with a few additional employees, been time in the garage, developing software to host the online bookstore. Eventually, they expanded into a two bedroom house and then into a developed test site. It was at this test site that Bezos officially opened amazon dot com on July 16th 1995. The company was named after the South American River, the Amazon. Despite having zero promotion from the press, amazon dot com managed to sell books internationally, including across the entire United States and into 45 foreign countries. In their 1st 30 days in business, when the company was just two months old, their sales reached an impressive 20,000 per week, the company managed to grow even faster than Bezos and his team could have possibly imagined. If Bezos had never taken the risk to leave his stable job and finances to pursue the risky industry of e commerce. At the time amazon dot com would have never existed, he would likely still be working for someone else and strapped to a career that did not appear to fulfill his passions and desires. Through establishing his own company, amazon dot com, Bezos has had the opportunity to create total freedom and establish a business that completely changed the face of e commerce and gave way for an entirely new business model for those to follow it in life, we must learn the value of taking risks, while risks always do carry the potential that you could risk losing everything, hence the name. They also carry the opportunity for you to gain
