Was it sustainably grown? Is it safe? Walmart is partnering with food companies and technology leaders to create a more transparent food system by using Blockchain. Blockchain is a way to digitize data that allows us to share information and enhance business transactions in a complex network. This allows the data to be presented in a more secure, trusted and democratic way. Blockchain enables traceability back to origin, from farm to table. Tracing back to the source will be done in seconds, not weeks. It enables rapid and precise removal of recalled products. This'll means that unaffected products can remain on store shelves, resulting in less food waste. Blockchain also has the potential to optimize how food gets from farm to table, and that means fresher food for our customers. But the ultimate goal is transparency. By getting rid of the anonymity that exists in the current food system, Blockchain will shine a light along every step of the way in the life of our food to help create a safer and better food system.
