Chapter four Academic Stress: Tests Freak me out. I've already shared with you that school was by far my biggest stressor growing up. It was expected that I would get not just good grades but excellent grades. The message was that I needed to excel so that I could get into the best schools and live the best life. At least that was the idea. I knew my parents just wanted the best for me and wanted me to do my very best. Of course, I worked harder. The reality is the pressure of the expectations was crushing. I was a good student but by no means perfect. I already told you about my experience bombing that French test. I worried constantly about my grades. Looking back. I didn't work smart. I kept myself stressed out which probably just made things harder. Trying to make those perfect grades. Kept me up at night and stole so much time that I can never get back. Sometimes. I wonder what might have been if I'd known how to just chill out.
