Three main themes emerged being able to support students, reapplying concepts in their own lives and developing connections themselves. University students who can provide encouragement, have strong problem solving strategies and are able to provide constructive, candid and direct feedback. Are able to build stronger peer to peer connections. All of the above our skills, which means anyone can learn to develop and improve these qualities. What makes someone appear leader simply any student who provides help, information resource is and support to their peers. Coaches, facilitators, mentors, role models, supporters, tutors and upper year students are only a few types of peer leaders at the University of Waterloo. Whatever their role is on campus, the Student Success Office provides a free training program to help students succeed in their peer leader position as well as develop their leadership and communication skills. Students who attend the training online and in person will have opportunities to broadened their knowledge of campus by learning how to refer mentees to the campus. Resource is that fit their needs, build on communication skills to know how to stay in conversation, engagement ease and celebrate important milestones and connect with a network of mentors from pure groups across campus and understand how a mentorship role can lead to a successful transition into the workplace. Students who have attended the training found it helped them succeed in campus mentorship roles while also providing the tools to care for themselves and meet new students from different faculties.
