and let's start at the beginning. When I was 18, I almost set the forest on fire. It wasn't intentional, mind you just plain stupid this girl and I was smoking cigarettes in the woods Behind the Piggly wiggly, but apparently it had been a dry summer and the leaves started smoldering at some point, just small at first, like when you blow out a candle, but it's not quite out yet. This girl, her name was Cassidy summers. I was trying to impress her I guess. Well, cassie was a straight laced girl. Daddy is a teacher and mama always helping out with bible school. She wasn't particularly multifaceted or at least she didn't act particularly multifaceted. People are like that. Sometimes She talked to close and asked me to buy her cigarettes because I was five months older and my only three freedoms in life with cigarettes. Lotto tickets. In my 1981 J 10. I always thought she had eyes like the swamplands, dark green and cloudy, never could figure out what she really wanted. We walked across the parking lot of piggly wiggly to these woods filled with Pharrell cats and palmetto bugs. I probably stepped on a few but couldn't tell with how loud the dead leaves and pine straw crunch. It was a Florida night in the late summer of 88 and the streetlamps were flooding our path into the woods. I followed until she stopped dead and tugged me down by the arm, sliding that cigarette pack from her overalls. I pulled a lighter from my pocket, Let us up and watched her smoke a storm in between those pines.
