Good afternoon. I'm Michael Brossart with the four o'clock CKDM news. Now afternoon updates the theft of an A TV in the RM of Alonza has led to the death of a dolphin man. Saint Rose RC MP responded to an A TV collision on road 95 west near highway five in the RM of Lake Shore where the A TV had struck a tree. The A TV was reported stolen back on July 4th and turned up 22 days later due to this incident, the driver, a 28 year old male from Dauphin was found deceased at the scene while the passenger, a 26 year old female from Crane River was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries. Neither occupant was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The RC MP continues to investigate the Manitoba government says it will disband the protection for persons in care office after a damning report on abuse in personal care homes. Auditor General Tyson Tao's report says some care home residents have been punched, slapped and assaulted but no action was taken by the office that oversees services to vulnerable people. One case involved an elderly resident who was held down on a bed and threatened with death. Manitoba Justice Minister Kelvin Gerson says the office will be eliminated and replaced with a new independent body that will report directly to the legislature. In response to the report. The opposition ndp say for years, they have been calling for an independent seniors advocate to ensure proper oversight of long term care home residents. A notable donation will be going to the support our seniors fund. Thanks to the Dolphin and District Community Foundation and the Dolphin Coop coop is donating $10,000 to the support your seniors fund. Uh The newly established fund that the Dolphin and District Community Foundation created in honor of the people affected by the tragedy in Carberry in June. So we're really happy to support that. That's Joan Chatter Bunk, Community Relations manager with Do and Co Op. She says that money will go a long way with the new initiative. Funds will go towards programs and activities for seniors in our area. They'll have to apply through the district community fund to learn more about the fund. It's a show that's captivating many Manito Ians. 50 years ago, Pink Floyd released the Dark Side of The Moon album and The Manitoba Museum is celebrating one of the best selling albums of all time, stunning visuals of space and the solar system. And it really takes advantage of the capabilities of the modern technology of digital video. And it's, it's not one of those old style laser shows that Pink Floyd is really known for, but it really takes advantage of the new technology, the new update and it's a really truly immersive visual and audio experience. That's Brandy Haber from the Manitoba Museum chatting about the 42 minute show while they are currently sold out for their next four shows. Haber says there will be plenty more added throughout the coming months and in events a bit closer to home up in the town of Swan River, the Swan Valley Ag Society is hosting the Northwest round up from today until Sunday, Austin Anderson. Canada's main stock index was down almost 200 points today amid broad based weaknesses led by telecom and utility stocks. While us stock markets also moved lower. And in CKDM Sports, he's in Kelowna for now, but he's coming home with more. Here's Darnell tough after starting his professional career in Wichita. Last season, Mark Lewis of Dauphin has signed a one year contract with the Manitoba Moose, a member of the American Hockey League. The contract means Mark will get the chance to play in front of his family and friends on a consistent basis for the first time since he played with the OCM Blizzard. Big, big dream. Obviously, you want to, you want to play in front of people that I've seen you play or I've been there through uh through your hockey journey, your hockey career and just life in general. And uh yeah, it's, it's actually pretty humbling just uh just to see the, just people reaching out and the support I I received. So, yeah. No, I'm just excited to earn a roster spot and just got to keep uh keep working 10th in team scoring last year with the Wichita Thunder in the ECHL. He was one of only eight players on that team to score 10 goals. And now the Moose hosts the Calgary Wranglers to open the new season on Friday October 13th. Thanks Darnell in international sports news. Ukraine has signaled it will no longer bar its athletes from competing against Russians who are taking part in sporting events as neutral athletes. That would be a significant easing of its boycott policy. A year before the Paris Olympics, Ukrainian athletes and teams will only be required to boycott if competitors from Russia or Belarus are competing under their national flags or other symbols. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers reportedly took a pay cut and has agreed to a new two year $75 million US guaranteed contract with the New York Jets. The four time NFL MVP had nearly $110 million in guaranteed money remaining in his previous deal with the Green Bay Packers. But Rodgers is taking less money with New York and reiterating his stay with the Jets is likely to last beyond just this season. That's the CKDM news. Now, afternoon updates for local news, any time go to 7 30 CKDM dot com. I'm Michael Brossart.
