What is going on? The light bulb in my brain pops. What if somehow I've ended up on one of those shows where they suddenly surprise you on camera and you get a prize for your humiliation, psyched out. Is that what the show on MTV Six is called someone in a band I played with once was on it. There could be hidden cameras here. Hilarious. Must watch TV. Witness singer musician, Violet Wild, lose it when she wakes up in the middle of nowhere. There could be cameras hidden all over the place. I'm beginning to think this is the most logical explanation. When my eyes land once again on the cardboard box underneath the table. I noticed it before but didn't think to open it. Ok. What are we? I take a few steps, stoop down, pull the box out and drag it across the hardwood floor. I plot myself down in a crosslegged position and pull the haphazardly taped top open inside a manila envelope sits atop some white t-shirts and sweatpants in my size and a stack of towels. I push my face inside and note how brand new it all smells. There are even undergarments but nothing sexy or interesting. I'm talking granny panties like prison garb, boot camp couture. I slapped the package of socks on the floor. A box of tampons, a phone charger. All right. I'm trying to make sense of these items in light of my psyched out theory. But this is more like something pointing to a long term stay psyched out. Wouldn't lock someone up in a cabin for days. They pop out soon and yell, psyched you out before cutting me a fat check and then we'd scuttle back to our normal lives. Maybe this is a special two parter episode. The manila envelope sits on my lap. I tear it open with my teeth. I fold a piece of paper and an old flip phone fall out turn of the century relic unfolding the piece of paper. I read the words typed in small caps. Hello, Violet. This phone dials just one number. We wonder, can you find how you're connected to the other end of the line? No cheating. That means your contact can't reach out to authorities or people in your life to ask questions about your disappearance if they do. Well, let us remind you. We are always listening and we don't want to be dangerous, but we can be, I mean, you're here, aren't you? This all has to be figured out on your own. If you can solve the puzzle in one week, maybe you're smarter than we thought. Maybe you do deserve your lives. My stomach turns, this is far too harsh for a reality TV setup. This reads more like a ransom note. Have I been kidnapped?
