Hello and welcome to the ST Xavier Senior Bomber Showcase Ammo intimidating alongside my partner, Michael Walsh. Bringing you exclusive interviews with Saint ex seniors in this time of disarray during Cove in 19 hopefully giving them a showcase. And welcome to the first episode of The Saint. Ex Senior showcase. Today's guest. Why it's beautiful. Top 500 player in the nation, right handed pitcher for Keynes National and ST Xavier High School. The University of Kentucky commit right. Welcome to the program, son can. Thanks, Doc. Thanks for having me go big go Cats, cats. I know, that's Ah, that was gonna be one of our first questions. And I mean, like, it's put a start. That now is obviously you're highly talented. Recruit fastball topping. All but 94 now, plus seven since 2017. What made you choose? What made you choose Kentucky? Uh, no, I was young at first, but I think it's sec. They wanted best facilities in the country. $30 million stadium. I mean, get from the best catches best. Everything that sees the best conference on then can be the Yeah, uh, So then obviously with Kobe right now, you can't play baseball. What? And it sucks cause it's your senior year, Do you think? How far do you think this say Nexium could've gone? I was looking at some rankings and that. So we were top three. Top five in the Midwest and the state. So how far do you think he could have gone this year? Yeah, with a great group of guys. Are, uh our bond together was awesome. We're also excited. This is And we would be easily playing right now we deploy intelligent tat state change game. Uh, no doubt. So we're one heck of it. Group and wish we could have fled. Yeah. Um, Mike, you got anything right now? I'm just, um I have never followed baseball. I know nothing about baseball, but what have you been doing to stay sharp during this time? Yeah, the drafts June 10th and 11th. So, like I said, I'm still going, Uh, that plays out on their own bullpens and sending video scout stuff like that. Yeah. Working out, throwing stuff like that right now? Yeah, that's gonna be We're gonna get to that. But are you putting your name in the draft? Is that something You're great early draft, but you let scouts. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. Are you all on stuff like that? That's pretty sweet. You, obviously. You're a major league talent. Looking at some of your stats. That's pretty cool. Do you think, uh, if you get drafted, what route do you think you take? Would you stay? It's only five rounds and it doesn't look like I said money in the pool. You have my eye on my SAT number that I would be willing for a forfeit Desi in Kentucky for Yeah, what willing What teams are willing to give you that money without? It seems that it's now this season. That's kind of hard, but we'll see what happens. I forgot the short in the draft this year by a lot of Yeah, I think it's only 40 rounds. Yeah, that's pretty sweet. You're probably one of the better Saint ex baseball players ever. If you get drafted this year, anime. Yeah, have a nice supply this year and be one of those teams, but yeah. So why you Ah, a lot of kids know you from playing football freshman. I mean ah, starting last year as a football to pro football quarterback. What made you decide to focus on baseball and or is that the reason why you quit football was just focus on the baseball around? Oh, yeah, of course. Yeah. Uh, yeah. I had a lot to play for. If it finding that this was happening, would have played a part timer set, but yeah, this upcoming here, uh, I mean, I I was pitching the summer. Pretty much is start pitching really well, when I got to this showcase events, uh, I'm like, Oh, my guys and the Canes National said you should if you focus on this next year, you could be a high quality pic and the draft. So I was like, All right, I think that's the dream. Since you been five in the major leagues, like I mean, I'm not really gonna do It was a hard decision. It was many sleepless nights and, like callous. My family throughout three weeks is beginning. Middle of June will be uncomfortable. I where I quit common stocks, Coach, Back to you is awesome about it. Uh oh, yeah, I'm glad happen, because I mean now, review Got to be able to go to Boston college. Yeah. Worked out for the best, I guess. Yeah, I probably worked out for everyone. And so the main focus of this is to show ah, of these interviews is gonna be what? Sane ex baseball and sports really meant to you. So what? What sports Have you played at X besides baseball? Football, or is that it? I buy basketball team my freshman year along JV uh, pretty pretty athletic through plan JV basketball is freshman eso. What is Ah, what's been your favorite part about playing athletics for a big time high school program like ST X? Yes. And that is really off. Some of its my fears my fair. Four years of my life now looking back on it, I wish I could have released when we're run putting on that uniform. But I think the guys and then you got to meet some guy that we behind Sean Clifford Chase Wolf. I got to me guys that you wouldn't think of like on the J bass. Let's see him on on on baseball, Like everything is just the camaraderie, the people, that brotherhood that you have a say next, uh, you build with the weightlifting was in the morning, in the summers, on baseball, on football, all that stuff me the most thing they helped make me the person today as a leader of the person, Is it individual? A part of a community that that brings you so close? It's It's awesome. Yeah. Is there? Ah, Is there any coach specifically at ST X That really helped you take that next step to becoming like a superstar athlete like you are? Uh, I'm making coach fact. I mean, he used since day one in eighth grade that he saw me. He goes, you're gonna be something special no matter what you do. But he told me it's not about physical. About the mental is about being a leader. You need to be recognizing if if you're you have to recognize from the weak to the strong, it's a whole group of the weakest guy is gonna how good you are, Like you gotta make sure from the back the front, that's how strong you gotta be. Tough when your team is gonna be in, you tell me. It's not just about you. It's about your team. First on the May demented mentality taught me toe have going through life. But it speaks volumes about the person. Yes. Oh, yeah. So you been playing baseball since freshman year? Obviously. What year were you brought up? Diversity. Russian. Near my freshman year, I pitched a couple games. Unversity. I started, I think, a tournament game against Springboro. Forget I remember going of that G eight BP game. I think when you're a sophomore, I think you've finished in that. I remember sitting behind the dugout. Nothing dug out the pump late and it had, uh, speed the velocity thing. I was like, Holy cow. This kids throwing. Yeah, is ah, pretty special excretion. Yeah, by the way, 95 95 now. So I heard that I said not anyone 94 right now, But in the season, hopes that would have been 90 to 95. I mean, I guess perfect game baseball lied to me that Yeah, Yeah, it wasn't. Yeah, Per of a game. Yeah. Steph will blame them. I saw that. I mean, this pre crazy 99th percentile with what your fastball is right now. I mean, that's pretty crazy. Yes. All right. What's your, uh, where you said Mike, He just said That's all right. You were all right. Why? Yeah. Why did your, ah, favor pitched a throw fastball? I just started doing Curb bowl last year. Actually, I don't want to hurt my arm. It'll and I was I know. What does one do with my life? Like playing football and baseball in college? Yeah, I'm a basketball for sure. Did you, uh, what do you sitting at right now with your off speed stuff? One of the pictures you throughout besides fastball, curveball, bicycle. Forcing basketball when I throw a knuckle curve when I throw a two seam changeup. All right. Good mix of off speed and speed right there and throw the batter off. Um, trying to think if there's any saint ex related questions. So you how much did you play on freshman at all? Or did you just go straight to J B? No. Yeah. They wanted to start me on freshman just, like meet the guys for a week. But they realized that there was no 0.1 strip the David Unversity. Yeah, some good stuff back to the college recruiting where? Whether other schools percent Kentucky that we're reaching out to you uh, I gotta Kentucky in tow. Like so, Like American Cross started in January and myself. Meyer, uh, my top schools where they're gonna be Vandy, North Carolina or Duke. But then ah, UK. Like I saw UK game and the coach, they want to talk to you, But you should really just came to me and said What's up? Like we kind of talked like we weren't talking, you know? Then they just started talking to me and the talk never denies. I love the offer. I mean, you know, we don't get what I got in baseball. Um, yeah, some. That's why I chose UK. But yeah, it was kind of like a spur of the moment type thing and wasn't like allergenic commits North Carolina. My parents just told me to wait. So then I was like, I'll just wait. And then, yeah, having it all happened for a reason. So, yeah, you saying it's like he's built up a pretty good program the last couple years that there's always defended you when I committed their five. So then they last they went 13 guys drafted that year when I committed an 11 guys drafted and then said there were building right. So yeah. Yeah, they definitely one of the Schroen suits. The last few years has been the pitching staff, so that's been pretty. It's obviously connected to you because you're definitely Last year, Zach Thompson was drafted on top 27. Yeah, I think Mike's got a couple more, uh, one more personal questions. So go for Walsh. I mean, you covered. I was gonna ask, Why did you choose Kentucky Already covered that, Um What would you if you can recall what was your favorite game? Um, playing as a bomber? Uh, football, Corrine. Ah, that was electric. As the first, uh, first home game for May, I think right. Wasn't thinking that got rained out. And I were playing. Yeah, that's what crazy like. Everyone thought we did bad that year. I mean, I didn't do great house hurt the whole year. Uh, a fractured foot the whole year I played on, and then I mano, I played through two games journos dying, but, uh uh, the Korean game, like the Holy Fear. Really? We were winning every single game, uh, after, but yeah, the Korean game. We went 60. Nothing. It was just awesome. That atmosphere like, Yeah. Okay. And cloudy, everyone. Still it up is awesome. So that's that. That's great. What about baseball? What's your favorite baseball game? Oh, probably be pitching at great American, I think. Yeah, that's just a glimpse of what's gonna happen in the future. But, I mean, that was just awesome, I think. Well, hypothetical. If you were to play in the majors, which is looking like you have a good chance of what would be the team that you would want to play for the most whatever team, once they get that's That's the right answer, I guess. Right? Answer. Okay. Why knows how to do Have to answer these questions correctly. It's gonna say, Try to think it is anything else I got, um, you said you were hurt during that football season. I don't think a lot of kids realized that they just stopped. We struggled. I mean, I didn't even really realize that that you were hurt that year until just, uh like, yeah, So the first game I played fine at Paul Brown. We did well, would be a little less chromium and wasn't perfectly fine the first time. So Then that night I stayed the XT open one in the morning because I have both. My knees blew up on the condition of both my knees on my elbows. So I said till one in the morning Me and me and Kirby, Jack Kirby. But then we got 4.5. Obviously, that wants to get there at six. AM and then I did get more stuff is given done 9 30 or 10 whenever. Oh, yeah, that game. That was the start of my things in the next week. I didn't like his both my knees. They were little just liquid and like, Yeah, bonus. I like moving around. And that all I kind of like I just It wasn't great. So that's what carried into my junior baseball season. Still heard them? Yeah, who has? You obviously have made a lot of relationships playing sports. Say I choose who's a bomber that you've met like a friend, someone in your class that you've become pretty good friends of that if you had employed sports, he probably wouldn't have met coming. My classes will be funded. Everyone bought me like Sean Clifford or Chase. Well, that's how strong. The other dad. He was like, What's that do? Like we're working out together and then also Chase Wolf like those guys were awesome. He's got a great attitude towards me and stuff like that. Uh, yeah. Those two guys were great examples of being a bomber and leaders and cross to carry out on. So that is it's pretty cool. Pretty cool stuff. So you play for this Keynes National Select team. That's a pretty That's a pretty well known, Ah, we have the travel team, right? That's Ah, you played for middle. And before that, right? Yeah. I play for the Redskins. Your gallop. It's good stuff. I think we're going to wrap up here soon, but ah, thanks for joining. Why? We appreciate this. It's great to see a little inside of what you're baseball journey has been at ST X. So definitely thanks for I mean, the 1st 1 I appreciate it. Oh, yeah, the 1st 1 in on you. I think we're gonna ask Revie to be our next ah, next guest. That's awesome. That's also think that the fund Yeah, I like this idea by now. I talked to some people and I thought this would be a fun way to showcase seniors who didn't get like, a last chance. Kind of like what you were saying so that, uh, it's awesome. We're gonna end with one final question and it's on a vast. It's in every interview I've ever done with, like faculty, your teachers, someone like that. What do you think the ST Xavier advantage is like? I said, The brotherhood like you're not like I want to Mason through. It's very like you have friends, but I wasn't like the guys you ever meet here. I guess they don't care. You care about academics first you care about. You care about that as athletics, it's it's not your It's not individual. It's not me. It's the team you're serving for the greater glory of God. That's what are what we all say. It really does shine through. That's what makes that place so also. All right, everybody. Why beautiful? Remember the name? He'll be coming on a TV near soon, hopefully planning the major lakes. Thanks for coming on. What ST Xavier's senior showcased is hosted by ST Xavier students Oh, intimidating and Michael Walsh, and it's produced by Chris Bro
