Welcome back, everybody to episode number four of Bookie and the better here at the book at Baldi in Sparks Nevada. I want to thank everybody for joining us here. I actually wanna thank back by Popular Demand. My good friend Greg, Gola Greg. Thanks so much for joining us here on our Friday episode. Popular Demand. Huh? I, I, I'm, I'm shocked they've let me back in to do this. No, no, no, no, nothing shocking here. No, definitely not. Um We, we, we love having you on and, uh, the, the information and, and, and general hilarity that we get from, uh, an episode from you and I knew we would have you back. I didn't know we would have you back this soon. So here we are. It is episode number four. Uh Greg, who are we going to give this episode to? Who's, who's your favorite number four in sports? There's a lot of them out there. There's the, uh, the current ones. Uh, there's a, there's a Da Da Prescott is a, is a number four. You always think of Brett Farve. You know, you talk about Brett Faves number four. Uh Bobby Orr Lou Gehrig. Um I'll say Lou Gehrig because, uh I grew up a Yankee fan. So I'll, I'll go with, I'll go with the Iron Horse. Iron Horse has to get this episode. I, I completely agree with you. Number four, Lou Gehrig. Thanks so much. I think what we want to take a look at today. I mean, Greg, we've got, it's, the weekend ahead is gonna have just a shock. Any time we're up against, uh, the, the first Saturday in May, we're gonna have a ton to talk about and of course, we're gonna talk about the Kentucky Derby, uh, but we'll cover a couple of other things as well. What I wanted to do was to actually take a look at what has happened since Monday. Uh, not only in the NBA, uh but in the NHL as well, Greg, we've got a couple of series updates and I want to take a look a little bit closer first at the NBA right now. Um Denver's up two nothing, uh, Miami New York, uh Philly Boston and then of course, L A and Golden State are all tied up one apiece. Uh Actually, you know, Craig, let's start off like this. What team can't win the NBA title for like how, let's see how easy. I haven't, I haven't got this theory that there's more parity in the NBA this year than we've ever seen. And I know the Celtics are, you know, a, a huge favorite at least from a bookmaker's perspective. But Greg, who can't win the NBA title this year really is unbelievable that the parity that's in the, in the NBA because, you know, for the, for the longest time it's been two or three teams that basically can win. Um, this year, I, I really truly think there's probably five teams that can potentially win. Um, but of those five, uh, Phoenix, you know, better win tonight. Um, because, uh, they're not coming back down three. Oh, if, uh, if they don't win tonight. So, um, I'm just not sold on anything, the heat or the Knicks, you know, could bring in the finals. Um, but I think any of the other teams, um, the Sixers, the Sixers would definitely need a healthy Joe L M B um, to win. But, uh, I think, I, I think any one of those other teams, Warriors Lakers and you can't count out lebron Rob Polica with, uh, what he's done, uh, making trades for that team to make that team better. Um, obviously the Celtics and, uh, and, and, and the Nuggets, everybody's sleeping on the Nuggets. But, uh, you know, they, uh, they were number one seed in the western conference in a, in a powerhouse Western western conference. So they must be doing something. Right. Right. And then you actually, it plays right into exactly what you were saying. I mean, you talked about the heat and the Knicks. So if we're going to them. And, uh, you could probably say that's probably why if we look at the other end of the spectrum in the east, that's why the Celtics are a prohibitive favorite to not only win the east but to win the NBA championship, I've got him about, uh, just a shade under 2 to 1 to win the title. Uh, Greg out there, Desert Diamond World in Arizona. Desert Diamond Mobile is, of course, you know, you're the director of the operation there. Tell me, uh any price disparity from, you know, where I'm at here in, in Nevada. We've got the Celtics to win the title about 1 82 to 1 here actually at Baldini's Knicks Heat 20 to 1. Um It kind of close or perhaps, maybe different with, ok, very close 20 to 1, both on the Knicks and the heat. But uh we're a plus a dollar 75 on the Celtics right now. 3 to 1 on the Nuggets. Uh I, I think 3 to 1 in the Nuggets is a, is a very nice price right now for us, uh for our Phoenix, uh for our Phoenix listeners and our Arizona listeners. 14 to 1 on the suns. If you believe so, then tonight is, tonight is, uh you, you better be rocking at the footprint center tonight because, uh, you, you need a w you need the w very, very much, uh funny. I mean, we had the suns prior to the Kevin Durant trade, they were trading anywhere between like what, 2025 to 1, but all the way down to five, even as low as 4 to 1. Uh And so here you are, if you still believe 4 to 1 is the right number, uh, 14 to 1 is, uh, you know, as they say in the, in the parlance, good value slightly, Greg. Let's switch over to, uh, the ice and the NHL. This has even more of the uh if the NBA has parity, then I don't know what we're looking at in the NHL this year. Uh from the eight teams that remain right now. Let's take a quick peek over here at their series odds right now in the NHL. Obviously, we've got the conference semifinals already underway. Uh Florida, the Florida Panthers are up two nothing against Toronto. Um Surprise, surprise. Um Not exactly as easy as it seems there, Toronto does it. Uh Seattle uh has it tied up with the Dallas Stars, the cracking and the stars tied one apiece and only one game each for Carolina. They're up one, nothing on the Devils and then the Kings up one nothing uh from a bunch of fireworks last night over the Oilers, Greg. I don't know how we, we got to this beautiful state of affairs where there's just a wide open uh number right now on pretty much anybody. I haven't seen anything like this in. I don't remember. 10 years, maybe even more in terms of the odds that you can get on a team to win the championship. It is, I mean, I suppose Vegas and Carolina 4.5, maybe 5 to 1. Uh, but then you've got the Panthers at 5 to 1. The Stars five and a quarter tied with the Oilers five and a quarter. The Devils are at 7 to 1. But, and then Toronto, who were the favorites to win the whole entire thing just on Monday, uh Greg who can't win the cup. Of course. First of all, first of all, the Kings, because you mentioned the Kings are playing the Oilers. It's actually the Golden Knights. So let me, let me correct you there. So the Kings can't win the cup but V G K, V G K, but I also, but I also want to mention, I, I'm sure you're really excited the fact that the Devils are playing the Hurricanes tonight and not that other team. I have to, you know, kind of say that again that that other team in New York that we just don't mention their name. They did not. Yeah. Yeah, we don't mention their name. But so I'm, I'm glad you're happy, glad you're happy about that. Um To answer your question. Um I don't believe that the cracking can pull this off uh to win the, the NHL championship, the Stanley Cup championship, excuse me. Um While it's a great story. Their second year, they're in the playoffs. Second round. Nice, nice. We're gonna have our own, we're gonna have our own franchise in Reno and we'll be in the, we'll be in the Stanley Cup finals in three years, whatever. But, um, I think they're the only team that can't win. Uh, I, I'm shocked about the Maple Leafs. Uh, so is everybody in the area where I live right now at Western New York and right on the border of Canada. Um I think all the Maple Leafs fans are, are ready to drink plenty of Labat blue hoping that this is not gonna be the end of their year. Um They were so pumped to make it to the second round, but, uh, now they got to go to Florida and then, wow, uh, down to nothing. Um, but, uh, I, I, I, anybody can, anybody, anybody but the crack and I think is, is, uh, is, is live and, and can win. So. All right. So then, OK, it is the bookie and the better show even though once again it's a, that's a pair of bookies coming up right now. So, ok, let's play, let's play my favorite game. I wish I had imaging for this for this episode, but I don't, let's play, name your price. So Seattle is drawn 11, right? It's, it's, they, they came to play, uh, what's the price that you would have to make for Seattle? To pick up the Stanley cup and raise it in their infancy. So we're trading them at 15 to 1 if I give you 25. Are you buying? I, I am not buying and, and we need to, we need to continue this podcast so that we can get graphics and, and music and, and all this fun stuff to play games like this. But no, I am not buying at 25 to 1. No, I will not. You got anyone out there that you really, uh, it's ok. We talked about who can win, right? Of course, Seattle is one of them. Uh, got anyone out there that you'd like to throw out as far as, uh, you know, who you'd like to see representing the east or the west or maybe you already have your, your pick for the cup final, you know, I mean, and if you wanna play by my, my heartstrings, if you wanna pull up my heartstrings right now, you can pull up my heart strings. So I, I was born and raised in, in New Jersey. So, you know, I watched Marty and I watched the, the Devils play so you can pull up my heart strings from that side. And then I spent uh 18, good years of my life in Vegas. So you can say Vegas Jersey and go from there. But, uh, I, I wouldn't be surprised by anybody. Um, but if you gave me 25 to 1 on the Toronto Maple leafs right now. I would take it just simply because they can light the scoreboard up and, and anything can happen. So, uh, you know, hockey is, hockey is unlike any other sport, you know, just because they lost two games on the road. They can come back and win four straight. So, you know, we'll see what happens. But, uh, you know, pulling in my heart strings, Vegas and, and New Jersey. So, uh go Devils tonight, you know, they, they need to win in Carolina tonight. So, yes, they do actually. And actually I'm not even gonna even say that that's a hot take. It's just smart the way it's break it down. I, I mean, look, you're absolutely right. I think we, we let off this part of this episode talking about it's a, it's a wide open cup final, uh and a cup playoff. So I love those selections. I would probably think, uh my team is, well, they've been eliminated by the Canes and no, I'm not gonna pick the Kings to win the cup, but I think that the way the Panthers are playing right now, um They, they are at a, at another level offensively and I think that you, you not only need one like back in the day, if you had like one hot goalie, that's gonna be good enough to win the 20 games to win the cup. I think you actually need two. Uh because there's just a different game today as opposed to when it was maybe like 10 years ago, there's just so much offense happening. I, I think you need two. Um, I'm gonna go pick and the Panthers got upset about last year's, uh, last year's, uh, second round playoff loss to the, to the, to the Lightning and figured, hey, we're in the playoffs now. We might as well, you know, we, we screwed it up last year with 100 and 22 points in the regular season. We might as well just do better this year. So, no surprise here. No, no, no, not at all. Um, ok, as we go towards the second half of our episode here, uh, it is, as a matter of fact, um, today we take a look at, uh, a couple of other things. Well, of course, I want to go ahead and discuss the Kentucky Derby, Greg. Uh, you and I both have a vast amount of experience even though we really haven't talked about it. Uh, at all on these episodes, Greg, you've been around a race track for decades. Uh, and I'd like to say that over the years, I learned quite a bit about the, uh, the Paramus industry and the ins and outs of really just ignoring that favorite every once in a while. Uh, tell me here with what we already have. Four horses already scratched out of the, uh, the race ranked summer 12 at Churchill Downs. Um, how do we have this playing out right now? Uh, conditions at the track don't look best. Um, you have an idea for who you want to eliminate right out of the box for, uh, coming up with your winners here for the Kentucky Derby. Uh, there's a surprise that the conditions never look the best. It just, it just seems like every first Saturday in May you're looking for, for bright shiny skies and flowers and, and everybody dressed in red and big hats and everything and it just rains and the track is sloppy. Um, look there every year, there's horses there just there because, you know, they, they, they want to be a part of the pageantry and they want to be a part of the, the, the, the, the amazing thing that is the Kentucky Derby. Um, and yes, we've had plenty of long shots in the past, uh, the, the mind that birds, the gmos and, uh, you know, these horses that have, have shocked everybody. Um, uh, uh, while I think the horse that I'm going to give on this show is not a complete surprise and he's not gonna be a huge, huge, a huge, huge underdog like that huge, uh, long shot, but I think he's gonna be a pretty decent price and, uh, hopefully, uh, your listeners can make some money on, uh, on the, uh, the horse of my choosing, you know. So are you, are you ready? I am ready. I, I will like to go ahead and let everybody know, like, look, it's no news. But if you're listening now, obviously the nine is out, the 10 is out, the 19 and the 20 is out. And by the way, actually, for the first time, I really thought that Contino uh the 20 finally, I thought we were going to have a horse, uh you know, from the Pacific Coast. Uh that was at the very least was going to have a chance at coming somewhere in the money. Uh But, oh, well, um not present. Yeah. Hit us with some knowledge, Greg. Yeah, not happening, not happening. So I have been torn between uh between three horses. Um but uh so I'll give you the two that I'm torn with and then I'll give you the one that I really think ultimately, uh ultimately will become be victorious. Now, your favorite, your favorite is uh is uh the 15 forte 3 to 1. Todd Pletcher, Ira Ortiz um owned by Rupo Stables. Uh definitely deserves favorite status. 15 straight six of seven. Um Florida Derby last out, definitely, definitely, definitely deserves uh favorite status. You got, you just got a powerhouse owner, trainer, uh jockey combination here, but who wants 3 to 1, right? You don't want 3 to 1 in the derby, which will probably be, be down to maybe 2 to 1, maybe 9 to 5, but you don't want that. Right. Nobody wants that. So there are a couple of horses that I do like and I mean, I give them to you and they, they could win, but I'm gonna see that they might be underneath and, um, they're both trained by the same person. Brad Cox. Now, Brad Cox is a Louisville native. Um, he did win the derby two years ago. Um, but that was the derby that was run because Baffert got, uh, disqualified with his horse, uh, for testing. So Manda Loon was the name of the horse, I do believe. And, uh, so he has a win but he's actually never actually won the race. So, while I would not be surprised if one of these two horses wins both, uh, the two verifying with, uh, Tyler Gaff Leone on top or the 14 Angel of Empire and Flav and Pratt and Angel of Empire was just dominant in, uh, in Arkansas and, uh, and won the Arkansas derby going away. Um, 8 to 1 morning line, I think is, uh, I, I, I think it should actually be lower but if you got 8 to 1 on, uh, on, on that horse, um, I think you would, uh, you'd probably enjoy that one. Uh, verifying was a, uh, was a neck second in the, uh, bluegrass stakes, uh, under Gaff Leon, uh, with Gaff Leon on top, excuse me. Um, I wouldn't be surprised because a lot of times the, uh, the other horse, everybody forgets about the, uh the other horse that might be in the race. And I think he's might be the other horse while Brad Cox does have another horse out of the, uh one hole. But I think, uh verifying could, uh could uh uh make waves here, but my selection in tomorrow's race and, uh don't laugh when I tell you is part of the reasons why I'm gonna select. This is, you know, if you're ready. Um Is the number six horse, Kings Barnes. Uh This sire's Uncle Mo who has won the derby. Um Oh, the other thing I wanted to mention, I apologize, verifying sire is triple crown winner justify. So don't be surprised if you know, maybe he, you know, shows up and wins too, but we're gonna go with Kings Barnes, the number six horse, uh the other Todd Pletcher, the other Todd Pletcher. Uh Uncle Moe was famously owned by the Repole Stables, but this horse is not owned by the stables. It is owned by Spence Farm. Uh Kings Barnes went wire to wire in the grade two Louisiana Derby on March the 25th. Um Flavin Pratt is off that horse and on goes Jose Ortiz. And this is a race that I don't think is a lot of speed in the race. And Kings Barnes could be one of those horses that depending on how the track goes, he gets loose on the lead. Uh He might be hard to uh hard to run down. So, uh the other reason for this and don't laugh, but everybody's all excited for what tomorrow? Robert, what goes on tomorrow? That's a worldwide amazing events. Uh I don't know. Boxing King is being coronated in England, King Charles. So Kings Barnes, King Charles is gonna get his crown officially tomorrow. So I'm gonna tell you, we're gonna go with Kings Barnes to win the derby in honor of King Charles. He's 12 to 1 on the morning line. Give me 12 to 1. I will take it to the bank and be very, very happy. The other Pletcher. Here you go. One of the other Pletcher because there's another one too. But, uh, King Barnes in honor of his royal highness. I'm over here talking about boxing. I'm already on to the next, the next event, but I'm not sure there's much to talk about this boxing match. We'll, we'll save about 30 seconds for that. But you're absol Greg. So here's the thing. Listener. Don't, don't bet the favorite in the derby. I, I know you could say, oh, you know, X factor this, you know, everything lines up. I Greg made great points. Exactly. Exactly. Do you really want to bet the favorite? No, you don't. Personally, if your course isn't at least 5 to 1 or better. Just don't, just don't, please do yourself a favor personally. I had, um, I had some ideas as to who I was going to select here and seeing that we've got a, a rash of, of scratches is not surprising. Uh, but I still think that there's going to be some chicanery. I mean, there always is, uh, in, in the derby in the size of this race. Uh, love that you went and started to discuss bloodlines. Um, I, I completely agree that pedigree should be paid attention to on top of who's the trainer and the jockey. Uh So it's so hard. You use the word, you, you use the word chicanery, it's, you just love chaos, don't you? Like? This is your thing. You know, this is just your thing, right? It just, you know, everyone knows I'm addicted to chaos. You sell it. I actually do love me. Uh some Brad Cox and finding the other, other, other Todd Pletcher is probably something I'm gonna have to figure out myself. Uh But for today, uh when you mentioned Uncle Mo, um and I that was one of my favorite horses over the years. Um And knowing that King's Barnes is from Uncle Mo, um it does play a factor. I'm not gonna pick Kings Barnes to win. Uh However, uh I am looking at Angel of Empire myself and I am going to put a wind beed on Angel of Empire. That's, that's gonna be my pick Flav and Pratt Brad Cox uh is, is definitely something. Uh I, I want a piece of on derby day. Uh, here's wishing, uh, that all of your photo finishes go your way on tomorrow. Um, we are going to be seeing these races go as early as what I think it's seven AM Pacific here. Yeah, that's gonna be 37 37 30 post tomorrow in, uh, in the great state of Nevada. So that is our, uh, our little breakdown here. Uh Greg's gonna go with, well, yep. Yeah, he's definitely circling the six for the Kentucky Derby. Let me get the 14. Uh and we're both telling you, uh, yeah, look, we're not gonna tell you to not bet anything. Uh but we're going to um gently recommend um, maybe not betting the favorite in the race. So, no 15. Excellent. All right. So look, uh obviously, uh a couple of final things that we want to go ahead and touch of, of course today. Um It's uh el Dia de la de Puebla. So, of course de Mayo, um where we're representing, uh everything that is the liberation, uh back in 18 62 of Mexico fighting off the insurgents by the French. So now with that out of the way, uh there is a fight, of course, uh we know Canelo Alvarez is always looking to have something happen on this weekend and uh well, he is going to be fighting. Uh We've got him posted here. This fight is actually, uh, not even in Vegas this year. He's decided to stay home uh so this fight's going to be in Estadio Aron in Guadalajara. Uh Greg, it's 40. Uh God, it's just the, the number is so high right now, John Rider, John Rider, who is, he's going to be fighting for the undisputed super middleweight championship. Um Look, he's coming 2000, right? If you want to go ahead and back, John Rider, you're gonna get 12, 13 to 1 I think is what you see. What do you see for the total? Um It's a 12 round fight. Uh I've got 8.5, anything different from you. Uh I have 8.5 as well. 8.5 plus a little favor to the under, minus a quarter on the under 8.5. Um I'm a, I'm a little lower on Canelo Alvarez, but uh I uh I, I, I don't understand why I gotta be, I gotta be honest with you. I, I just don't see him losing in this spot and I think the uh the only thing, the only thing that we need to worry about is whether or not he's gonna knock out John Rider or if this fight is actually gonna go over under 8.5 8.5 rounds. Yeah, that's the bookmaker's challenge actually, it's the total. It's probably not the decision, you know, what is a good decision though here as we wrap up our show eating, I love eating and in honor. You love, you, love, you love eating your, your, your listeners don't know, don't know anything about me. How much I love eating. Uh You love honor and a celebration of El Dia de de pub. Uh Greg. What do you, what do you got? What's your favorite Mexican cuisine? I'm so glad you asked this. But, but I have to give you two. I have to give you two. I have to give you a uh I have to give you AAA Vegas one. Um But I also have to give you one from uh Arizona nearby um the Desert Diamond properties. So the one in Vegas um there's a, there's a group of restaurants uh Michoacan's but this one is the is Benito Michoacan. It's on uh uh Rainbow and uh Flamingo and Rainbow Flamingo and Dec excuse me, Flamingo and Dec. Um and it is now I can't pronounce, I, I've given you the name of it so they call it Al Chipotle. Then they have another name with it and it's I can't pronounce it. So I gave it to you and hopefully you can, you know, you can do it. So I I'll give you a shot at it. But let me see here you just, you handed me this year. Oh my God. It's so many letters. All right. All I can see here is that, of course it's picoso and of course it is because it's Poo Al Chipotle. But what are they calling this thing, they, they're giving it some spin on it. OK? I'm gonna go ahead and try this. Let's go. Let's go. First take here. Um, I was, I think that's good. I think that's really good. Um, you know, for those out there that want to know what it is. It is. It's chicken breasts, chipotle sauce, fresh tomatoes, onions, peppers, green olives, garlic and dried red chilies with some rice and beans. And it's fantastic. Um Everything, everything there is fantastic. So if you, if you're in Vegas and you need someplace off the strip and you don Michi on South Dak. Now, my other go to and this is just one of those, those things and it's in Glendale. Uh, and I found it when I, I found it when I was visiting the property. Um, I, I, I needed a late night snack and, uh, you know, I found this, it's a place called Burroughs and fries, burrows and fries. And now I am a sucker for Carne Asada fries. Not only do they have Carne Asada fries, they have a large portion of Carne Asada fries and they don't just make it with Carne Asada. They also put some shrimp in it too. And uh, yeah, it's just, it is so silly. It really everything about it is just silliness. So, uh I look forward to, uh, my next trip to Arizona to go, uh, to the Desert Tia and property to uh to do some work. And, uh, and, uh, there will be a, be a visit to Burroughs and fries. So shout out to burrows and fries and the surf and turf, uhf and fries. They're, uh, they're outrageous man. Small, large, I mean, I recommend getting a large but, uh, you know, if you can't eat it all, you'll be ok. Just share it with your friends, share with your friends. That's what it's all about. Robert. Your favorite cuisine, please. Oh, no, no, no, please. This, this is fantastic. And we could talk about food all day and all night. I give me a good mole. I mean, and look, Greg it, they, there's not enough time to talk about. There's like 798 ingredients that go into a really authentic mole. And I've had some really insane mole. But of course, what's the most important part of mole? It's Mexican chocolate. That's, that's the basis of it. And I can't get enough of it. I want to celebrate every day. Really? It's kind of what it's all about, right? You make it to celebrate something. Well, heck, let's just celebrate every day at this point because I love me. So Mole bla and I'm gonna have some tonight. I can't think of enough reasons of to thank you Greg. Uh Thanks so much again for joining us here on uh the Bookie and Better Podcast episode number four. Uh It's always been a pleasure. Uh once again, you could find uh Greg and his masterful work at uh uh Desert Diamond Mobile down in Arizona. And I wanna thank you so much, Greg. Here's the diamond dot com. If you're in Arizona, sign up for an account play desert Diamond dot com, uh that's where to find them. Absolutely, Greg, thank you so much again for joining us and Robert, I can't believe you. Let me on this again. I, I honestly can't believe it, but thank you for having me once again. See you again soon, Greg take care.
