It is pouring outside. When we leave ruth's house, the rain is blowing sideways. We crowd into the car with erna Danny and their father. The Children cannot wait to find their first puff ling. We drive slowly through the streets, peering into the light from the car's headlights for any sign of puff wings. Suddenly Danny yells, stop, his father pulls over and Danny leaps out of the car, his flashlight beams stabbing the darkness. We jump into the soaking rain, too eager to see him discover a puff ling. But what caught Danny's? I was only a piece of paper blowing in the wind. Danny has Eagle eyes, the children's father tells us last year he rescued 27 puff wings in one night.
