the way human flip in space has changed drastically since those first crewed spaceflight missions of Mercury, Jim and I and Apollo and the Shuttle Orbiter flights have played an important role in helping to advance quality of life, safety and comfort in space. Astronauts on board the shuttle's lived and worked in an area called the Mid Deck, located just under the flight deck. This area was approximately 13 feet long and roughly 8 to 12 feet wide. That's about the size of your average bedroom. Smaller, really. So imagine sharing the space with up to seven other people.
