Get stared at the array of weapons spread out before her trying to make a decision. She had always been a skilled hunter but the choices here were overwhelming. A bow and arrow seemed like the obvious choice. But so many other weapons could be used to great effect in the arena. A sword or a spear would allow her to defend herself at close range while throwing knives could be used to deadly effect from a distance. As she pondered her options, her thoughts turned to her fellow tribute from district 12 Peter Malark. They trained together, but she couldn't shake the feeling that he was holding something back from her. She had seen him talking to the careers, the tributes from the wealthy districts who had trained their entire lives for the games. They were brutal and bloodthirsty and Kanis knew that she and Peter would have to be careful if they were going to survive. She finally settled on the bow and arrow knowing it was her best chance of staying alive, she took a deep breath and reached for the weapon, feeling a surge of confidence as she hefted it in her hand as she turned to leave the training arena. She saw Peter standing off to the side, his face unreadable. She wanted to approach him to ask him what was going on. But something held her back. Instead, she walked past him with a nod. Her mind already racing with plans and strategies. She knew that the Hunger Games were going to be the most difficult challenge of her life, but she was determined to come out alive.
