Hi, my name is Eleanor Fleta. And I will be talking about a podcast called Why Zoos are Bad. And this podcast is about why zoos are bad and why they are harmful to animals. Your opinion could be, oh, well, they're keeping the animals alive. So there you go. It's fine. It doesn't really matter which I can understand why you would say that. But there are many reasons why zoos are bad and why they are dangerous to animals and why they can cause health effects in a negative. I don't think that this topic is talked about as much as it should be, I think, and I know that there are many zoos that take good care of the animals or that actually treat them, right? Which is understandable but not all treat their animals, right? Which is something that needs to be talked about. An animal is supposed to be out in their natural habitat. Like for, for example, polar bears, polar bears are supposed to be in a cold environment and polar bears are their natural habitat. Is Antarctica, Antarctic Seas and both of those places are very, very cold, which is where a polar bear is supposed to be. And here in Buffalo, it does not get as cold as it gets in the Arctic Sea. So how could it be 100% safe for the polar bears if it doesn't get as cold as where they are supposed to be? And also in the Arctic seas, there are wide ranges of food for the polar bear. But in zoos, it's like the polar bears are on a time schedule of five o'clock dinner at three o'clock in the morning breakfast, something like that. But which is not good because their natural instinct is to feed on whatever they see or whatever is whatever they want. But they can't do that in this and for their entire life, they're just stuck in a glass case. And also I remember going to the zoos and I saw the giraffes which are a large animal and they were in a tight enclosed space where they could barely even move, which is not good because, you know, for a big animal, they shouldn't be in such a small space. Another reason that zoos are bad is many zoos don't keep the cages that they're keeping the animals in clean or sanitary, which can eventually lead to health conditions that can be resulted in poor living conditions or et cetera. Some things that could happen because of this are mold, can grow, the animal can get sick. And if you put yourself into this, it's like you're being stuck in a cage your entire life and that probably wouldn't make you or anyone feel better. One quote that proves this by Lewis Hamilton is, if you are home on lockdown, perhaps you can feel a little of what the animals in captivity go through every day, their entire lives stolen from them in future. Please don't go to any zoos or circuses because this is what our money goes to supporting Lewis Hamilton said that what he is talking about is basically saying because when we had to go through COVID and we had to go through quarantine or we had to stay home and in the same area for a long time, he is basically saying that that's exactly what animals at the zoo and in captivity go through because they are staying in the same place for like for a long time. And it's something that should be stopped because no one deserves to be held in captivity or be held under their will because they can't really do anything I don't believe. And I know that it is not safe for animals physically and mentally to be in an enclosed space where their natural habitat is taken away from them and everything that they know or what they should know is just taken away from them just for humans to walk by, maybe take a picture pose with the animal and then go and they see that every day of their lives and they just like, sometimes you just wonder like, what are they thinking? Do they know that their environment that they are in that these animals are in, aren't the best living conditions? And are they ok with that? We would never know because we can't talk, we can talk to them but they can't, they really can't talk back. And if they did, could understand them. And another example is an Orca in Seaworld, there was an Orca who for it's he or she's entire life was just like waving and doing shows and for, for his or her entire life and eventually he or she, the orca eventually turned on the owner or the and he or she got killed because they were just like, oh, well, this whale can't do what we want him or her to do. So they, he or she is useless. So I know and I think that it is very unfair that once these animals mess up a tiny bit for any reason, even if just in the zoo, which is also when the orca in sea world, the Seaworld is the same thing as the zoos, zoos, they are being held against their will. I mean, they can't really make a decision on it. So I guess held against their will and they can't have any say in it and any time they mess up the tiniest bit they get killed, which is unfair to any, any like put yourself in their position. If you were just taken from your family and then in your natural habitat and where you're supposed to be and then you mess up on something and you get killed, which is the case for many situations in these types of situations. So therefore, zoos aren't good at all to go to. And there are many zoos that allow open spaces for the animals which is better. And so if you are going to a zoo, you should probably prefer to go to the one that is high quality versus the low quality in many animals. They don't understand. Well, obviously they don't understand what's going on, which is understandable because they're an animal obviously. But a lot of the times people don't even care and they just walk by and they just pay for these type of situations that are hurting the animals and they just walk by and don't care, which is something that shouldn't happen because many animals should be taken care of and shouldn't be taken away from their natural habitats. Thank you for listening.
