In addition, seven of the 10 states with the fastest growing latin X populations are in the South, but it's also been the birthplace of movements that have transformed the country Today. The South is entering what some movement leaders call the 3rd reconstruction. This builds on the first, which as well as the civil rights movement, a second reconstruction that ended Jim Crow laws and sparked liberation movements across the South and the whole country. And today some of the most promising innovative criminal justice reforms in the country come out of campaigns conceived and led by local organizers in the South. This is the South today a region of immense promise and potential that with the right investments could drive the Third Reconstruction a period of profound change for the entire country.
