Meet Isabella. She's nervous, she could completely freeze, but she's prepared for this moment. Isabella takes a deep breath, glances at her mentor, her friends thinks about what she's learned about what matters to her and her community and then delivers her first ever presentation in front of her local city council at the UCL A center for the developing adolescent. We know this moment was so much more than a speech for Isabella as neuroscientists and developmental scientists. We've spent our career studying the brain more specifically how the brain changes during adolescence. We conduct research partner with leading work directly with community leaders and we listen to adolescents themselves at 15, like all of us during our adolescent years, Isabella is exploring the world around her and making important connections. She's figuring out who she is, what she cares about and how she can contribute. And she's learning a lot the experiences she has now can impact the rest of her life. That's why investing in the adolescent years is as important as investing in early childhood years of research, empower us to understand the kinds of opportunities that help adolescents thrive. For example, an effective school program and caring adults helped Isabella tackle public speaking, something that scares many professionals. She had the opportunity and support she needed to take a healthy risk. These kinds of risks help her learn, build her confidence, help her form healthy relationships and become a force for good in our society. Adolescents across our country like Isabella need smart science backed policies, ones that help them form the skills they need in adulthood. These programs can help youth continue learning the right opportunities can even help adolescents overcome challenges from early childhood. So today we're inviting you to learn more about how together using science, we can help adolescents succeed as leaders, you play an important role in making sure adolescents like Isabella have what they need to thrive. And when adolescents thrive, we build strong vibrant communities. Let's help your community succeed together.
