Farron Heights Ghost auditioned by Erica Hilliard. The doctor read the chart and check the Ivies and heart monitor all well. Rick and Colleen kept their eyes on Tina's chest, rising and falling at even intervals. She's strong, the doctor said, and everything looks good. I'll give you some time, but please don't stay too long. Your mother needs to rest. Kali nodded. As the doctor left. She took her mother's hand and let the tears flow down her face. Thank you, Rick said voice rough. For what? She asked, frowning for trying to take those bastards out. I didn't want to leave her. Cauley nodded. I'm not sure I actually got them. Don't worry. They don't have long on this earth. Colleen knew she should be horrified, or at least object to Rix promise of cold blooded murder, but she couldn't find it in herself. Maybe I'm not cut out to be a vigilante after all. I'll leave you. I got to make a phone call, Rick said, giving Tina one last lingering gaze. Are you going to get a security detail over here? She asked already on the way, he said. Before walking out the door, Colleen sat in the chair Rick had vacated and stared a Tina. Their life together rolled through her mind in vivid detail. The times Tina had been gentle, fair and even fun to be around, but also the time she could make you ashamed to have compassion for anyone. The day she'd hit and yelled at calling for not winning a fistfight in the third grade. The fact that Tina knew what grandfather was doing to Colleen and yet did nothing to stop it or make it easier. And then the day many years later, when she'd given calling a small fortune to make a new life for herself a Cambridge, maybe she had no choice but to be that way. She was just trying to protect us while we had to live in grandfather's world. The back of Colleen's mind didn't buy into that reasoning, but just then it was easier to ignore the truth and bask in the fiction. Tina stirred on the bed, moaning as she tried to open her eyes. Mom calling, asked, jumping up from the chair, Tina looked around, brow furrowing, as if she were confused. She tried to sit up and winced at the pain don't move, you're in recovery. Tina's *** swung over to Colleen. Rick, is he? He's fine, Colleen said. Some stitches, But he's his usual dour self. Tina side, her face relaxing in calling, wondered if Rick was wrong about Tina. What if she returned his feelings? You were you hit? She asked, her voice. Raspy. Colleen reached for the small pitcher of water in the plastic cup in straw. I'm fine. Not a scratch. Another sigh of relief from Tina, Her eyes closing, Colleen raised up the bed a little and helped Tina to take a few sips of water. She placed the cup on the small table next to the bed and smiled at her mother. How long have I been here? She asked, wincing as she tried to sit up a little more. Colleen folded one of the pillows, buying Tina as a prop. A while it's past noon. Oh, Tina, frown her eyes far away. You don't have to worry about anything. Whatever you're thinking about can wait a few days so you can recover. No, it can't, she said, her gaze focusing on Colleen. What is it calling? Asked her heart, suddenly hammering in her chest She wasn't at all sure she wanted to know what Tina was thinking about because then she'd want to help. After what had happened calling knew that her boundaries had been weakened by that bullet. And she bet Tina knew it too. Would she take advantage? It's dammit, Colleen, do you really want to know? Calling? Take a deep breath nodded. You remember that man, Mr Price? The one that helped you kill Grandfather, right? He called in one of his favors recently, a fairly easy job. On the surface, he asked for one of my best men to accompany a piece of precious cargo on a riverboat. They're sending cargo, one riverboats. It's a floating casino. Mr Prices. Employer owns it and they're sending this cargo on the boat to hide it from anyone who might want to steal it. When I dug a little further, I found out that it's not cargo. Not really. What is it? Tina paused A person with powers. I don't know what they're going to do with this person or why they're transporting them like cargo. But I'm not all right with it. Colleen's eyebrows shot up. You're not? Of course not. I have my limits, Tina said. All right, I believe you, Colleen said, holding up her hands. Anyway, Rick was supposed to go and find out who was in the cargo and get them out calling, stared at her mother. You were going to rescue them? Yes, and then what? I hide them for a while and then help them get to safety if they so choose. And here's where the shoe drops. But while you're hiding them, you offer them a job? Colleen asked, crossing her arms. Tina didn't flinch from her gaze. In fact, she raised her head a little, managing to look regal even while lying in a hospital bed. Yes, Von is gunning for high tide. She glanced at her bandaged abdomen literally, and having a power person on the payroll would tip the balance in your favor with everyone. It's not like with Grandfather. Sure it's not, Colleen said, turning away the familiar stab of betrayal, making her heart ache. I'm not the only one they'll come after, Tina said. You'll be next, and so will Rick. Anyone close to me, Anyone that would have any right to my seat, they will obliterate our family and I can't have that
