introduction. Why are we stressed? Everyone experiences stress in one way or another, and it has become a regular part of life. We worry about money, work, relationships, friends or a family member who is in crisis or ill. Generally, stress comes from change, the pressure of too many desires and demands and high expectations. We want to excel at our jobs, be a good parent to our kids and always keep our home in order and make sure it stays that way. Most of us also want to grow, invest and make it out ahead. We always want to be there for our own families whenever they need our care. We want to deal with the metabolic changes that are occurring in our body in our thirties, forties and fifties and still be able to spend quality time with our loved ones. We want to spend some of our savings on a cool motorcycle or a nice TV. Well, that's a cheery site, Percival son looking around the hollow space. It's not supposed to be cheery, a gravelly voice called from Somewhere in the Shadowed Sanctuary. Truth is never a cheerful subject. They all jumped, realizing the place wasn't as empty as it seemed. We're looking for the soothsayer, Percival called, folding his arms across his chest and a look that said he wouldn't be intimidated. Do you know where we might find him? Rustling sounded from one of the lonely pews on the left side of the sanctuary. Dark, tattered robes shifted as something sat up. It's hood was pulled low over its face, concealing its features, but it couldn't hide the long, dark horns that stuck out of the holes on either side of the hood. They gleamed in the flickering candlelight as the hood turned towards them, its owner taking in the group from the shadows within. You found him. It spoke at last, as if finally drawing some silent conclusion about them. Why do you disturb me? We seek knowledge, Percival said. Will you help us? The committee has decided that a note be placed in your file concerning your actions. You will also be placed on a two week probationary period. I paused to see if the two shriveled fruit next to me want to add anything. And of course they don't. You have two weeks to file a dispute. I'm good, he says. and smiles smugly. His eyes divert from mine, too, beneath the table, where I'm sure he can see up my skirt. I cross my legs and he looks up at me. He's about games and winning those games. Anything else? Thank you, Dr Ford, I say and shove his file into my bag, and that's that. Anyone else would have been fired on the spot. Ford looks at the two men next to me and then smiles at me. He knows why I've been hired. I'm here for him. I am his adversary. It's just a matter of who will go down on their knees first, him or me. I'm sure we'll talk again, Ford says, and exits the room, leaving in his wake a massive sense of self and pheromones that make me even want to jump his bones.
