Hannah wasn't sure why she came to these meetings. Probably some masochism component in her ****** up brain, listening to strangers discussed the worst day of their life. Didn't aid her sorrow, but it did make her realize how much she missed her sister on good days. What happened to Casey would escape from her consciousness. But walking into this room always brought the memories back to the forefront. Brittany was my baby, my only kid. I never really pictured myself a dad and by the time I hit my 30s, I thought having a kid was out of the picture. But then I met Sarah and we pretty much fell in love overnight. Sarah was pregnant about six months later. The man across from Hannah said. The man paused and looked down at the checkered tiles, seemingly searching for his next words. Hannah stared at him for a moment, then nervously looked away and silently brought her legs up and crossed them under her. She tried to remember his name, but couldn't another nameless stranger. The man was sitting in a folded chair in a conference room with nine people in a circle. Some of them were watching the man while others had their heads down or their eyes closed despite historical recollections of settlers scrambling across land and sea, spurring the greatest mass migration known as the gold rush its name, the Golden State has likely morphed to mean the sun, but one could argue we share in that too. I straddle the two states in heart and mind if California is our sister then to me, Nevada is a he. The Sierra. Nevada mountain range also straddles the two states stretching over 400 miles along the border of California and Nevada, combining the contrary and the mismatched that can culminate in eruptions of accidental tragedy, mysterious vanishing of aviators. Over 2000 incidents have occurred over the years in what has been known as the Nevada Triangle. The culprit is a phenomenon called mountain waves. Since the sierra Nevada's run perpendicular to the high altitude pacific winds off the ocean, its lofty peaks and triangle chunks of range conceive unpredictable and volatile gusts and downdrafts that make flying in the region potentially deadly. It can grab a small plane and toss it to the ground. What has he done now? Samuel groaned. He uttered a huge sigh as he finished the rest of his drink before slamming the glass back down on the desk. His eyes moved over to the bottle in front of him, tempting him wildly to pour himself another. But Samuel found by pushing the bottle away from him, he still had some restraint. The light bringer felt like whatever he was about to hear wouldn't be good, so it was best to be prepared for the worst in Samuel's mindset with the state he was in at the moment, there was no positivity to be found anywhere. He was drained from this whole rescuing is ra from the darkness mission or at least they were doing their utmost to try to anyhow. And the forlorn man was honestly considering giving up and just admitting defeat to the demonic foes they had fought so hard not to lose against houry tossed her tablet onto the seat and groaned if we'd been in the car so long. Even the appeal of electronics had faded. We'd been in the car too long. I stretched my neck and tried to figure out how many hours I've been at the wheel, definitely too many was the only answer that came to mind. Want to find a place to crash for the night. I glanced at her via the rear view mirror. She was at that tender age where she could look more like a sullen teen one moment and a mischievous kid. The next though these days I was seeing way more sullen than silly pool and breakfast, she asked as she grabbed the phone, I handed back to her pool. For sure I could use a dip after dinner, putting her in charge of hotel bookings and restaurant research had been a stroke of genius. Mostly because it gave her something to focus on other than finding new ways to complain about our unexpected road trip. Bonus points. If it's near a pizza joint. What's going on here? The voice cuts through the tension like the tolling of a bell. Not so deep as bear guys, but it carries the weight of authority and my interrogator snap around to face it standing a little straighter, a wiry silhouette with hair hanging in loose, gray streaked waves, strides into the circle and the street light falls on a woman's weathered, frowning face, painting it with deep lines of shadow. We found this Arkan skin throwing her weight around. Of course, it's the edgy chick who speaks up first, she asked, a vampire just down here, Lady espina right under our noses, espina. Perfect. Now I'm really in it up to my eyeballs. That's the claw skin clan's head family. This lady who studies me with dark, unreadable eyes is probably on the Charter Council. Edgy chick fidgets in the silence for a second, but apparently can't help herself. We can't let them just waltz into our territory and start technically, Lady espina interrupts smoothly, not looking away from me. We're still in borrow Noel, which we're here to protect. Not claim. Edgy chick opens her mouth to protest, but Bear Guy puts his hand on her shoulder with a warning look
